Overhead Door TechnicianThe Overhead Door Technician installs, services, and repairs a wide range of commercial overhead door systems and related equipment, including sectional, rolling steel, high-speed, service and sliding doors, gate opening systems, operable partitions, and dock leveling systems. You will work in the field at various customer job sites, serving as the primary point of contact and ensuring safe, high-quality work. Product-specific training is provided to help you master the techniques and procedures required for the company's product lines. This role requires a strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, a professional demeanor, and the flexibility to work extended hours to support a growing customer base.ResponsibilitiesInstall, service, and repair commercial overhead door systems, including sectional, rolling steel, high-speed, service and sliding doors, gate opening systems, operable partitions, and dock leveling systems.Read and interpret blueprints, design schematics, and electrical wiring diagrams to plan and complete installations and repairs accurately.Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical components to identify issues and perform effective repairs.Operate scissor lifts, high lifts, fork trucks, telehandlers/lulls, and other heavy equipment safely and in accordance with company and site procedures.Organize job sites, maintain a clean and orderly work area, and manage materials and tools with strong attention to detail.Ensure job site safety at all times by following company safety policies and meeting or exceeding customer safety requirements.Complete required safety and site-access training to work at local manufacturing and industrial sites.Load and unload job site materials from trucks and trailers, including large and bulky items, using hoists, slings, and other lifting aids whenever possible.Work in various environments and weather conditions, including hot, cold, and inclement weather, while maintaining safe work practices.Serve as a professional, courteous point of contact with customers, representing the company positively on every job site.Arrive on time to job sites, maintain reliable attendance, and communicate clearly with team members, project coordinators, and customers.Work overtime and occasional weekends as required to meet project schedules and customer needs.Train and lead other technicians in job processes and procedures when needed, sharing best practices and promoting safe, efficient work.Review bid documents from general contractors and architects to understand project scope and requirements when involved in project planning.Read blueprints and product specifications to confirm correct materials and installation methods for assigned projects.Verify that all required materials for projects are ordered and available, and explain the scope of work to technicians assigned to the project.Coordinate with customers and other project stakeholders to schedule work and align project activities with other trades and project managers.Monitor projects to help ensure work progresses smoothly and remains within budget expectations.Drive company vehicles safely to and from job sites in compliance with driving and DOT requirements.Essential SkillsMinimum of 2 years of verifiable experience reading and interpreting blueprints, design schematics, and electrical wiring diagrams.Minimum of 2 years of verifiable experience using analytical and troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical components.Minimum of 2 years of verifiable experience operating scissor lifts, high lifts, fork trucks, or other types of heavy equipment.Demonstrated job site organizational skills and strong attention to detail.Proven ability to ensure job site safety in alignment with company policies and customer requirements.Ability to complete required training to gain access to local manufacturing and industrial sites.Current OSHA 30 certification or the ability to obtain it within a specified timeframe.Current Association of Reciprocal Safety Council (ARSC) certification or the ability to obtain it within a specified timeframe.Valid driver's license with a strong driving record and the ability to be insured under the company's vehicle insurance program.Ability to obtain a "For Hire" endorsement as required for driving responsibilities.Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug assessment.Ability to lift and handle bulky and heavy materials overhead safely.Ability to work at heights using appropriate fall protection and safety equipment.Ability to work in all types of weather conditions, including hot, cold, and snowy environments.Positive attitude, punctuality, reliability, and a professional demeanor when interacting with customers and coworkers.Willingness to work 40 or more hours per week, including overtime and occasional weekend work, to meet customer demands.Additional Skills & QualificationsMinimum of 3 years of verifiable experience in commercial overhead door installation and service or closely related work is strongly preferred.Experience training and leading other technicians in job processes and procedures.Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience with ARC/MIG welding and basic metal fabrication.Experience using hoists and slings to move and position heavy materials safely.Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience reading and interpreting blueprints, design schematics, and electrical wiring diagrams is highly desirable.Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience understanding PLC functions, including ladder logic and basic programming concepts.Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience working with relay logic circuits and 3-phase 480-volt electrical systems.Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience applying analytical and troubleshooting skills to mechanical and electrical components in the field.Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience managing job site organization, documentation, and attention to detail.Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience enforcing and maintaining job site safety standards according to both company and customer requirements.Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience operating scissor lifts, high lifts, fork trucks, or other heavy equipment in a construction or industrial setting.Experience as a field service technician, maintenance technician, or service technician in a mechanical or industrial environment.Experience with overhead door systems, field service work, and the use of hand tools and power tools.Background in welding, metal work, or fabrication in a commercial or industrial setting.Ability to read and interpret technical schematics and service documentation for mechanical and electrical systems.Previous experience reviewing bid documents and coordinating with general contractors, architects, or project managers is a plus.Experience managing project materials, verifying orders, and aligning product specifications with project requirements.Prior experience in roles such as technician or installer in construction, industrial maintenance, or The position typically operates within a pay range based on experience, with most technicians falling within a mid-range band. You will work approximately 40 or more hours per week, with overtime as needed and only rare overnight stays or Saturday assignments. The work is physically demanding and hands-on, requiring frequent lifting of bulky and heavy materials, working overhead, and performing tasks at heights using lifts and other equipment. You will work both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions, including hot, cold, and snowy environments. The role involves regular use of scissor lifts, high lifts, fork trucks, telehandlers/lulls, hoists, slings, and a variety of hand and power tools.
