Team: Stage OperationsReports To: Executive Producer / Stage Operations LeadershipLocation: On-Site – Los AngelesSalary: $110,000Employment Type: Temporary up to Full-TimeOverviewThe Virtual Production Stage Technical Manager is responsible for the technical ownership, operational readiness, and successful execution of Synapse Virtual Production’s LED stage environment. This role serves as a key technical and operational leader within Stage Operations, ensuring the stage is fully prepared for production, client demonstrations, and internal development initiatives.The Stage Technical Manager oversees critical technical systems including camera integration, tracking, genlock workflows, signal routing, and stage hardware, while maintaining the overall functionality, organization, and presentation of the stage environment. This role works closely with production teams, virtual production supervisors, Unreal operators, and systems engineering to support seamless production workflows and maintain a high standard of technical reliability.The ideal candidate combines hands-on production experience, strong technical expertise, and operational ownership, with the ability to anticipate production needs and support fast-paced filming environments.Key ResponsibilitiesStage Operations & Technical OwnershipMaintain the overall operational readiness of the virtual production stage, ensuring the space is prepared for tech scouts, prelight days, production shoots, load-ins, load-outs, and internal testing. Monitor the condition, organization, and presentation of the stage floor, technical infrastructure, and support areas to maintain professional production standards.Oversee and maintain stage technical systems including camera integration, signal flow, genlock workflows, LED processors, tracking systems, and mission control infrastructure. Support troubleshooting and collaborate with systems engineering to maintain system reliability and calibration.Production SupportServe as the primary technical partner to production teams during tech scouts, prelight, and shoot days. Work closely with directors of photography, camera departments, and DIT teams to support camera integration, lens calibration, tracking setup, and signal workflows. Ensure the stage technical team is prepared to support production needs and respond quickly to technical adjustments during filming.Equipment & Inventory ManagementMaintain organization and control of stage equipment and technical assets. Manage intake, tracking, and maintenance of camera systems, tracking equipment, rigging, and other stage hardware. Implement and maintain inventory processes to ensure equipment availability, reliability, and accountability.Team Collaboration & Technical LeadershipWork collaboratively with Studio Coordinators, Virtual Production Supervisors, Unreal Operators, and Systems Engineers to support production planning and stage operations. Provide oversight and technical guidance to freelance stage technicians during production periods and assist in coordinating staffing needs.Innovation & DevelopmentSupport internal R&D initiatives, system testing, and development of new virtual production workflows. Contribute to stage improvements, hardware integrations, and operational processes that enhance Synapse’s technical capabilities and client offerings.QualificationsProduction ExperienceProfessional experience in film, broadcast, live production, or virtual production environmentsExperience working with camera systems, production crews, and technical departmentsTechnical SkillsDigital cinema camera systems and lens handlingTracking systems and camera calibration workflowsProduction signal flow and genlock environmentsFamiliarity with LED volume environments and virtual production pipelinesExperience with Unreal Engine workflows is a plusProfessional SkillsStrong organizational and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to work independently in fast-paced production environmentsHigh level of reliability and technical ownershipStrong communication and collaboration skills with production teamsPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbsAbility to stand and work for extended periods in active production environments
