Redtree offers 100% remote work for this role. As a growing engineering firm, we've built our team around flexibility from day one, giving engineers the ability to do serious, high-impact power generation design work from anywhere in the U.S., without relocating or commuting to an office.\n\nPosition Summary\n\nRedtree is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with deep power plant design experience to lead schematic design development, detailed engineering, and field engineering activities for power generation projects, with a focus on coal, natural gas, and gas-fired and combined cycle power plants, as well as emerging data center power infrastructure and behind-the-meter or fully islanded energy projects.\n\nIn addition to technical design work, this role plays a key part in growing the team, mentoring and training less experienced engineers, leading project teams (including supporting staff overseas as part of Redtree's global CSI network), and helping set technical direction and quality standards across electrical scope.\n\nThis is an exciting opportunity to join a growing engineering team that partners with industry-leading clients to deliver innovative, resilient, and scalable solutions from concept through construction and commissioning, all while working 100% remote.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nServe as technical lead for electrical scope on assigned power generation projects, setting design direction and quality standards for the team.\n\nBring deep, hands-on power plant design experience to bear on complex electrical systems for coal, natural gas, and combined cycle generation facilities.\n\nMentor, train, and develop less experienced engineers, including reviewing their calculations, drawings, and design decisions.\n\nManage and lead teams of electrical engineers to complete assigned activities, including workload planning and task delegation.\n\nDirect and support project teams and engineering staff overseas as part of Redtree's global CSI network, ensuring consistent design quality and coordination across time zones.\n\nDevelop electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and equipment layouts for power generation facilities and associated auxiliary systems.\n\nDesign and specify medium- and high-voltage electrical systems including switchgear, substations, transformers, protective relaying, grounding systems, and utility interconnections, as well as protection and control (P&C) systems for generation and substation applications.\n\nCoordinate with equipment manufacturers and vendors to develop equipment specifications and resolve technical issues during design and procurement.\n\nPerform electrical system studies including load flow, short-circuit, arc flash, protection coordination, grounding, cable ampacity, harmonic, and transient analyses using ETAP or equivalent software.\n\nSupport control system integration and plant automation initiatives for both new-build and modernization projects.\n\nPrepare and review engineering design packages to ensure compliance with applicable codes, industry standards, and client specifications.\n\nCoordinate with mechanical, civil, structural, controls, and project management teams to develop integrated and constructible solutions.\n\nSupport construction administration and startup activities, primarily through remote review of compliance submittals, technical direction, and resolution of construction issues, with occasional site visits as needed.\n\nSupport proposal development, scoping, budgeting, and schedule estimation for new opportunities.\n\nDevelop technical specifications, calculations, reports, and drawing packages throughout all project phases, including feasibility studies, conceptual design, detailed engineering, construction support, and commissioning.\n\nLead development-support and owner's-engineer work, such as technical due diligence and design reviews, as needed.\n\nRequired Qualifications\n\nBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.\n\nActive Professional Engineer (PE) license required.\n\n10+ years of hands-on electrical design experience specifically within the power generation industry, including coal, natural gas, gas-fired, and/or combined cycle power plants.\n\nDemonstrated track record designing electrical systems for power plants, including medium- and high-voltage distribution, switchgear, substations, and protection and control systems.\n\nDemonstrated experience mentoring, training, or leading other engineers, including reviewing their technical work.\n\nHave experience with low, medium, and high-voltage power distribution systems, critical electrical infrastructure, and electrical equipment selection.\n\nPossess working knowledge of protection and control systems, relay coordination, switchgear design, and transformer applications.\n\nHave experience performing electrical studies using ETAP or similar analysis software.\n\nDemonstrate familiarity with applicable industry standards and codes, including NEC, IEEE, NFPA, NESC, and utility requirements.\n\nStrong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary project teams and represent electrical scope to clients.\n\nWillingness to travel to project/construction sites as needed (estimated to be 10-20%).\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\nExperience directing or coordinating with engineering staff or project teams overseas, or in distributed/multi-time-zone environments.\n\nExperience supporting plant modernization, life extension, retrofit, or uprate projects.\n\nExperience with hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data center developments.\n\nExperience with mission-critical electrical systems and redundancy architectures, including N, N+1, and 2N configurations.\n\nExperience with medium-voltage distribution systems, substations, and utility interconnections.\n\nFamiliarity with renewable energy, battery energy storage systems (BESS), microgrids, or behind-the-meter power solutions.\n\nFamiliarity with advanced power systems studies, such as EMT modeling and transient analysis.\n\nWhat Redtree Offers\n\n100% remote work, U.S.-based, with no relocation or office requirement.\n\n100% employer-sponsored benefits.\n\nDirect exposure to the full project lifecycle, from concept through construction and commissioning, rather than a narrow phase or discipline silo.\n\nA growing, entrepreneurial engineering team partnering with industry-leading clients on mission-critical facilities, power systems, and complex infrastructure.\n\nMultiple openings across Mid to Senior levels, with the flexibility to match title and compensation to the selected candidate's experience.\n\nWork Authorization: Must be able to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.","company":"Red Tree Engineering","rawCompany":"red tree
