Director of Children's Services

The Director of Children’s Services is responsible for the oversight of children’s programs and services, including day to day operations, compliance, program growth and development. This role will work directly to support children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), their families, Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), and with the executive team of Community Support Services, Inc. (CSS). Key Responsibilities Children’s Wrap Around Services Oversee Children’s Wrap Around Services wrap around services which emphasize community-based instruction, positive behavior management and the development of independence for each child. Ensure the quality and compliance of services provided in the therapeutic after school program, Saturday program, school break camps, and summer break camps. Supervise in home children’s services provided through the autism waiver and Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) funding. Coordinate wrap around children’s services with school and residential services. Employ strategies to increase program admissions and grow children’s services. Review referrals, interview family members, arrange tours and make admission recommendations. School Operations Oversee the administrative and day to day operations of the Marcia D. Smith School, a small, non-public school for students with IDD funded and licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Work with the executive team to complete the annual school budget and documentation and surveys required for the program. Plan Development Develop individual plans in accordance with requirements of the funding agency. Develop treatment plans for children under the autism waiver. Develop PCPs for children enrolled in the DDA waiver. Compliance Monitor the requirements of and guidance issued by relevant government agencies including MSDE, the Governor’s Office for Children, DDA, and Montgomery County. Recommend adjustments to CSS policies and procedures as needed. Billing and Documentation Ensure billing is timely and accurate for each service provided. Maintain efficient billing systems in coordination with the accounting department. Ensure all Direct Support Professionals are trained as needed to document services correctly. Review documentation of children’s progress regularly and adjust services as needed. Communication and Outreach Provide regular communication regarding services, resources, and relevant information to stakeholders and the community. Provide family consultation and adult life planning as requested. Work with the executive team to apply for grants and supplemental funding to enhance children’s services. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social work, special education, or other human services field. MSDE teaching certification is helpful, but not required. Experience: Experience working in a special education school or autism waiver services; experience working directly with children or adults with developmental disabilities; supervisory experience in a school setting or community provider agency. CSS is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization which provides services and support to children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities residing within Montgomery County, Maryland. CSS was founded in 1994 and began its mission by working collaboratively with individuals, families, and other lead agencies to design and implement new models of service. CSS provides residential services in 50 homes in upper Montgomery County, where two individuals reside in each home with one or two support staff providing care and supervision . Additionally, day support services including vocational training and education are provided in our main center, family homes, and in the local Montgomery County community.
