Registered Nurse (RN) | Medical-Surgical Location: Penn Yan, NY Agency: Cynet Health Pay: $2,092 per week Shift Information: 3 days x 12 hours Contract Duration: 14 Weeks Start Date: 4/27/2026 About the Position Job Title: Registered Nurse - Med/Surg Profession: Nursing Specialty: Acute Care Duration: 14 weeks Shift: Full Time - Variable Day/Night shifts Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year experience serving in a Med/Surg environment as a Registered Nurse License: Active RN Licensure in New York State Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: NYS RN Licensure and certifications Description: The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The RN assesses patient needs, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient’s episode. The Med/Surg RN develops specialized skills in cardiac care, including telemetry monitoring. The RN is accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The RN applies nursing knowledge and skills by assessing patient and family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness, and analyzing data obtained through observation, assessment, technology, or health team communication. The RN creates a developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address identified health problems. In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, the RN sets goals and monitors the patient’s progress. The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or changes in condition and reprioritizes needs. The RN promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient. The RN systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, using results from Quality Improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and influence care delivery. The RN engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas for professional development and takes accountability to enhance knowledge and skills. The RN uses logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. The RN demonstrates skill in the application of nursing interventions, including medication administration. The RN motivates the patient and family by teaching them necessary information to continue care and healing at home. The RN assesses patient and family learning styles and structures sessions to maximize understanding. The RN seeks teachable moments during care delivery to emphasize pertinent information. The RN asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self-care process. The RN provides tools and information to assist the patient and family after discharge. The RN documents the education provided and the patient and family response to the education. The RN encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcomes. The RN teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice. The RN complies with infection prevention strategies and maintains competencies required to care for the specific population assigned. The RN reports potential safety risks and questionable practices. The RN promotes leadership awareness and fosters positive change. The RN conducts rounds per protocol and uses needed tools and equipment to keep the patient and family informed, engaged, and safe. Nursing practice reflects the importance of making a meaningful connection with the patient and family.
