Registered Nurse, Emergency Room (Night)

Townsen Memorial is hiring for a Registered Nurse, Emergency Room Night Shift to join our team at our Houston, Texas location 77072!SUMMARY:The Registered Nurse, Emergency Room is responsible for receiving patients to the clinical area and providing nursing careto the emergency room patient. Additionally, providing direct patient care and developing nursing care plans specificallydesigned for the individual patient.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ensure the emergency room and patient care areas always have a clean and therapeutic environment for allpatients Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant Ensure supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order Admit the patient to the unit and prepares him/her for the admitting or emergent procedures Make initial assessment and determines the nursing needs of the patient, communicates additional discharge needswhen applicable in conjunction with the emergency room physician Explain nursing procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxiety Identify patient’s physical and mental status Monitor the patient’s medical condition and reports any significant changes to the admitting physician or emergencyroom physician Assure any procedure or surgical consent, pre-operative test results and History and Physical are in the medicalrecord prior to any proposed procedure as applicable Assist with transferring of patients out of the facility; knowledgeable of EMTALA rules and requirements Report any important health history facts to the emergency physician/medical director Educate patients and family, provide patients and family members emotional support as necessary Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff Utilize and maintain clinical competencies (general, age specific and drug administration) Demonstrate clinical problem solving and critical thinking, make decisions using an evidence based analyticalapproach Plan for routine events and anticipates/prevents and manages/evaluates emergent situations Use downtime efficiently, aware of team members workload, responds positively to requests for assistance fromother team members throughout the facility Adapt to unexpected changes, effectively acclimate to various work schedules to achieve high quality of care Protect patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient records in accordance to policy andprocedure and HIPAA requirements Follow all safety rules, reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace Maintains established Facility/Departmental policies and procedures Adheres to the company standards of business conduct Performs other related duties as assigned to support the hospitalKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word & Vision (EMR) Strong attention to detail: being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks Ability to maintain composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior,even in difficult situations Ability to adequately plan and implement nursing interventions and evaluate patient condition Practice nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and accepts responsibility and accountabilityfor own actions Excellent, professionally polished patient interaction skills and ability to practice collaborative nursing Ability to respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and /or the patient’s condition changes High stress tolerance: accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations Ability to adapt with flexibility: being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in theworkplace Ability to work independently, guiding oneself with little or no supervision, depending on oneself to get things done Ability to maintain records, effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow Ability to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipment Ability to communicate professionally with patients Exceptional customer service and phone etiquetteEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associate’s degree in nursing Two (2) years of experience in an supervisor capacity acute care environment Registered Nurse in the State of Texas Basic Life Support (BLS) certified Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifiedBENEFITS: 401(k) with employer contribution Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance Employee Assistance Program PTO + HolidaysTownsen Memorial Hospital is an accredited network of facilities with an emphasis on emergency care, outpatient surgery, and diagnostics and imaging.
