Our employees will lead this exciting transformation and grow professionally with us.\nThe Process Engineer, Electrolysis will be an integral part of the team designing and building a new metal, alloy, and magnet-making facility. The Process Engineer, Electrolysis will play a key role in the execution of MP Materials’ mission to restore the full rare earth supply chain to the United States of America. This role will support the first step in our manufacturing process: molten salt electrolysis. This position will work closely with area management, quality, EHS and maintenance personnel to meet area objectives. In addition to molten salt electrolysis, the ideal candidate will also have knowledge of strip casting, and/or magnetic/metallic powder milling.\nEssential Duties:\nParticipate in equipment specification, design reviews, and commissioning of electrolysis lines.\nProvide the electrolysis operators and technicians with technical training and support.\nContribute to EHS risk assessments, HAZOP studies, and regulatory compliance.\nEvaluate raw materials and their impact on plant performance and product quality.\nTrack KPIs, driving to achieve high yield, consistent product quality, and minimal EHS impacts.\nSupervise the daily use of quality control procedures.\nDrive initiatives to ensure stable and efficient metal making plant.\nInvestigate and resolve quality issues within molten salt electrolysis and associated subprocesses.\nParticipate in continuous improvement activities to eliminate waste and reduce the overall cost.\nParticipate in projects to advance rare earth electrolysis process technology.\nCommunicate progress verbally and through written detailed technical reports and presentations.\nDocument and disclose intellectual property and assist in patent filing preparation and defense.\nWork with procurement, vendors, maintenance, operators, and other team members\nOther duties, as assigned.\nBasic Qualifications:\nBS degree in Metallurgy/Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.\n5+ years’ experience in electrochemistry with industrial scale processes and equipment.\nKnowledge and experience in gathering and tracking process control information for SPC.\nProblem solving experience (FMEA, 8D, A3, Root Cause Analysis etc.)\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\nExperienced user of Microsoft Office suite.\nValid Driver’s License and good driving record are required to drive company vehicles on property.\nDesired Qualities:\nMS or PhD in Metallurgy/Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.\nDeep technical knowledge of electrochemistry in general, and rare earth molten salt electrolysis.\nKnowledge of downstream processes, particularly alloying and casting.\nExperience with SAP.\nAbility to identify and solve problems and convince others (management down to operators) that your solution is the right one.\nExperience with programming, and process control operations; COMSOL Multiphysics, CFD, MATLAB, Python, Mini -Tab, AutoCAD /Solidworks\nMP Materials is Proud to be an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer - EEO is The Law\nAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
