{"schemaVersion":"jobsearcher.job.v1","id":"1da4dd8e58e06a0cd66a91c7","url":"https://jobsearcher.com/jobs/1da4dd8e58e06a0cd66a91c7","canonicalUrl":"https://jobsearcher.com/jobs/1da4dd8e58e06a0cd66a91c7","title":"Technical Services and Digital Initiatives Library Assistant II","description":"Technical Services and Digital Initiatives Library Assistant II\nGENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:\n\nUnder the supervision of the Cataloging and Metadata Librarian and the E-resources and Digital Repository Librarian, the Technical Services and Digital Initiatives Library Assistant (officially classified as Library Assistant II) performs the processes for receiving mail; processing, distributing, and renewing print journals and newspapers; processing new materials for collections; stacks maintenance; catalog record maintenance; and digitizing materials for the library digital repository.\n\nSee the full Library Assistant classification specifications.\n\nSUPERVISION RECEIVED:\n\nWorks under the general supervision and review of the Cataloging and Metadata Librarian and the E-resources and Digital Repository Librarian.\n\nSUPERVISION EXERCISED:\n\nN/A\n\nEXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\n\nProcesses and distributes print journals and newspapers, and updates online periodicals records\n\nWorks with Acquisitions group to renew print periodicals and newspapers\n\nPhysically processes books and materials for collections (covering books, adding bar codes, spine labels, and security strips, stamping)\n\nWorks with Access Services and Cataloging groups to shift and maintain library stacks, repair damaged items, process withdrawals, and update catalog records\n\nMaintains holdings binder, fills requests for articles from microform collection, and maintains microform reader-printer and other scanning and copying equipment\n\nWorks with Cataloging and E-resources librarians to establish, document, and implement digitization guidelines and workflow procedures to digitize content\n\nOperates equipment to produce high-quality digital images of library, University, faculty, and other content for incorporation into the library digital repository\n\nWorks with Cataloging Librarian to create and update catalog records for digital content and maintain digital collections\n\nPrepares reports as needed\n\nStaffs library front desk as needed\n\nParticipates in library and University committees\n\nAssists with other duties as assigned by supervisors\n\nWORKING CONDITIONS:\n\nWorks inside Whittemore Library.\n\nJob Requirements:\n\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time paraprofessional or clerical experience as a library assistant, or (B) any combination of the required experience and the substitution below.\n\nSubstitutions:\n\nI. An Associate's degree or higher may be substituted for the required experience. *\n\n*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.\n\nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:\n\nAbility to pay attention to detail\n\nProven ability to work independently\n\nAbility to follow-through and resolve problems/issues to completion\n\nExcellent knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office products\n\nAbility to understand and apply Library and University procedures and guidelines governing the purchase and disposition of library materials and equipment\n\nAbility to prepare general reports\n\nStrong communication skills.\n\nAdditional Information:\n\nThis is a full-time, non-exempt, benefits-eligible position in the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) bargaining unit with a union title of Library Assistant II.
