The Lead Automation Controls Software Engineer is responsible for providing controls programming, debugging, and site‑installation of turnkey custom automation equipment.\n\nEssential Functions\n\nWork independently on larger or high‑complexity projects and/or multiple smaller projects.\n\nTrain new and less senior engineers.\n\nSet technical direction for multiple engineers on portions of larger or more complex projects.\n\nPeer review of other engineers’ work for accuracy and thoroughness.\n\nDevelop overall machine controls software architecture.\n\nElements: cells, stations, devices, sequences.\n\nInterface.\n\nRecipe selection.\n\nRecipe editing.\n\nStatus tracking.\n\nData tracking.\n\nReport generation.\n\nEnsure commonality of code among several engineers working on the same or similar projects.\n\nReview customer requirements, PMD proposal, and PMD cost estimate.\n\nUse provided standard code and device drivers, or use end‑customer provided code and/or formats to create custom control & HMI programs.\n\nCreate custom device driver code.\n\nAttend mechanical design reviews to understand machine functionality and suggest concepts & componentry to meet functional & safety requirements.\n\nUsing control schematics, enter I/O into controller programs.\n\nUsing timing chart provided by Mechanical Engineering, program intended sequences into controller programs.\n\nDownload completed programs.\n\nCommission control hardware.\n\nDebug control hardware for out‑of‑box failures, intended design, and correct wiring/plumbing.\n\nDebug control software, including all intended sequences, modes of operation, special functions, fault detection, fault recovery, tooling return, and interface.\n\nParticipate in factory acceptance test at PMD.\n\nParticipate in site acceptance test at end‑customer’s facility.\n\nOther Duties\n\nMaintain a clean and orderly work area.\n\nObserve safety procedures.\n\nAny other task assigned by management within scope of position, federal and state regulations.\n\nRequirements\n\nEducation : BS in EE, EET, Mechatronics, or related engineering field; or demonstrated equivalent experience.\n\nExperience (10+ years) with 3 or more of the following:\n\nPLC programming (Rockwell, Siemens, and/or Omron)\n\nHMI programming (Rockwell, Siemens, and/or Omron)\n\nRobot programming (Fanuc, ABB, Epson, Staubli, and/or Kuka)\n\nVision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Matrox, and/or Teledyne Dalsa)\n\nIndustrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, EtherCat, and/or IOLink)\n\nTechnical supervision (5+ years)\n\nKnowledge, Skills & Abilities\n\nEffective verbal and written communication.\n\nAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures.\n\nAbility to work in decimal, octal, hexadecimal, and binary numbering systems.\n\nAbility to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and calculate scaling factors, proportions, percentages, rates, and ratios.\n\nAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.\n\nOrganized.\n\nDetail oriented.\n\nAbility to work independently or as part of a team.\n\nAbility to take direction.\n\nCreative/innovative.\n\nTime management skills.\n\nPhysical Demands & Work Environment\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
