Shipping & Receiving Supervisor (Tacoma, WA)As a "caretaker" of our brand's legacy, the Shipping & Receiving Supervisor leads and motivates the staff engaged in the receipt of incoming materials and the shipment of outgoing product. On a daily basis the Supervisor will organize and ensure the shipping and receiving staff checks, counts and weigh incoming materials and supplies upon receipt. The Supervisor also ensures that their staff verifies quantity, quality, labels and addresses of products readied for shipment.WORK ACTIVITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIESEssential Duties and Responsibilities:ProductionOversee incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness and condition of the shipmentsDetermine space requirements and position of shipments in preparation for transportDirect movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areasInspect loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications and safety protocolsOperate a fork lift, hoist, floor jack or power truck for unloading, moving or storing materials as requiredSupervisionResolve employee grievances and maintain a high level of harmony and camaraderie among workersThrough training and performance evaluations motivate the staff to meet and exceed shipping and receiving standardsDaily organization of staff through written and oral instructions to ensure shipping and receiving goals are metStandardize and train the staff on the procedures that improve the team's efficiency – recognizing positive resultsProvide timely and accurate reports to upper managementMaintenance, Safety and AdministrationEnsure all workers strictly follow the established rules for safety while using the various machinery, tools and suppliesInspect material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance staff for repairPrepare receiving reports that detail errors, shortages, damages and defectsComplete daily logs and pick tickets and ensure that the correct person receives the relevant paper workKeep the warehouse organized and clean through personal and staff's effortsOther duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Required QualificationsTwo year degree (e.g., Associate's or technical degree) or the equivalent combination of education and experienceThree years of experience or training in the shipping and receiving area of a pick & pack warehouse for manufacturingProven track record of building, motivating and managing a team of production, warehouse or logistic associatesProven expertise in MS Excel, Word and the databases and software used in warehousing and shippingAbility to lift up to 65 poundsPreferred QualificationsLanguage Skills: Proven experience reading and interpreting documents (e.g., bills of lading, invoices, orders, procedure manuals, and regulations) and writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.Mathematical Skills: Documented ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Demonstrated ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.Reasoning Ability: Documented ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Proven experience dealing with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Inventory Databases; Order Management Systems; Spreadsheets, Word Processing, and MS PowerPoint.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
