SALARYThe minimum salary is $79,073.28 annually.This position is not eligible for overtime (exempt); however, the city has a compensatory time leave program for employees that grants leave time for hours worked in excess of forty hours.Pay Grade 527FILING DEADLINE DATEThe extended deadline to apply is Monday, June 1, 2026GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe purpose of this classification is to supervise and direct all maintenance and repairs of a variety of vehicles, machinery and equipment of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government.This position is responsible for managing the daily operations critical to the success of the Division of Fire and Emergency Services.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSAssociate's degree in a field relatedFour (4) years of related experience, of which two (2) years must be in a managerial or supervisory capacityAdditional years of related education may substitute for years of experienceAdditional years of related experience may substitute for years of educationExperience maintaining or managing fire apparatus fleets preferredESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS* Supervises, directs and evaluates the work of technicians performing maintenance and repairs* Creates and audits equipment work ordersMaintains workshop in order to provide timely servicing/repairing of vehicles and equipmentImplements and monitors a preventative maintenance program and repair orders to assure cost effective maintenanceIdentifies service needs and schedules repairsAssists in the development of maintenance policies and procedures; ensures policies are up to date and enforced within field operationsConducts analysis of vehicle status and makes recommendations for timely replacement in order to improve cost-efficiencyIdentifies trends and forecasts needs to ensure division has the most up to date equipment and personnel skillsPrepares out of service vehicles and equipment for online auctionPerforms related work as assignedCoordinates with vendors for commercial repairs and warranty workSPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONAll certifications and licenses must be maintained as a condition of employmentRequired in order to qualify (we request copies are uploaded to your application):Seven (7) certifications from the list approved by Lexington Fire Department Fleet Maintenance Bureau, to include at least one (1) ASE Medium-Heavy Truck certificate (T1-T8)Approved certifications include:ASE T1-T8, G1, L2, E1-E3EVT F1-F8, FA4, E0-E4IFPS Fluid Power MechanicAny KYDOT or AWS welding certification* Valid Kentucky Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class B and a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiner's Certificate* Must obtain N Endorsement - Tank Vehicles within the first six (6) months of employment* Required to obtain an Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certificate within the first year of employmentSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS* Must be accessible for on-call duty and ability to work weekends, holidays and emergencies as assignedHOW TO APPLYSubmit LFUCG electronic application through lexingtonky.gov/jobs and attach/upload applicable documents to verify your education, training, certification/license(s), or DD214 (for military preference with appropriate discharge) by filing deadline date.RESUMES CANNOT BE SUBSTITUTED FOR THE APPLICATION, but are highly encouraged to be attached/uploaded to the application.Please note that the section titled "Application Questionnaire" has to be completed every time a new or revised application is submitted.
