It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position. The incumbent may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this job description.\n\nChild Care Responsibilities (40%)\n\nProvides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure and healthy manner.\n\nPrepares and serves children snacks and meals; ensures that children receive nutritional and tasteful food; provides positive, relaxed atmosphere during children’s mealtime encouraging conversation.\n\nExhibits control of the children and, when needed, displays proper discipline techniques.\n\nPrepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.).\n\nEnsures the accountability, security and safety of children participating in after school activities and field trips; reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.\n\nAdministers basic first aid as necessary; reports any health issues with supervisor in accordance to policies and procedures.\n\nOrganizing, Planning, and Teaching Lessons (30%)\n\nDevelops and implements lesson plans which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities.\n\nDetermines appropriate supplies and materials for lesson plans and recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same.\n\nProvides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.\n\nMaintains the after-school materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for any supplies necessary for after school programs.\n\nDriving Responsibilities (20%)\n\nTransports or assists with transporting children whenever needed; ensures the safety and protection of children at all times.\n\nAssists in leading children on field trips.\n\nCleaning Responsibilities (10%)\n\nCleans the kitchen, classrooms, table, vehicles, floors, etc. in accordance with established sanitary standards.\n\nOther Responsibilities:\nAttends and participates in regularly scheduled in-service training sessions.\n\nPerforms other duties as assigned.\n\nMaterials and Equipment:\nGeneral Office Equipment Playground Equipment Kitchen Equipment\nAfter School Equipment Classroom Equipment\n\nKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:\nKnowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development.\n\nKnowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children.\n\nAbility to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.\n\nAbility to teach children Christian values as well as general childhood education curriculum.\n\nAbility to plan, develop and implement effective childhood programs and activities.\n\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:\nEducation and Experience:\nHigh school diploma or G.E.D. required,\n\nand\n\nOne to two years’ experience teaching child development programs,\n\nor\n\nany equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities\n\nand\n\nAbility to pass all state licensing background checks.\n\nCertifications:\nValid State Drivers License\nValid CDL – Class B (Preferred)\nCPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain)\n\nPhysical Requirements:\nAbility to meet attendance requirements.\nAbility to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.\nAbility to observe children and ensure their safety.\nAbility to drive a Salvation Army vehicle safely observing all laws, regulations, and policies.\nAbility to pass DOT requirements to drive a Salvation Army midbus or other DOT vehicle if requested.\nDuties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing and walking on a frequent change basis.\nLimited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently.\n\nWorking Conditions:\nWork is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.\n\nStatement of Purpose:\nThis document provides descriptive information about the above Salvation Army position.
