As a Structural‑Bridge Technical Manager, you will both self‑perform and direct project teams in the planning and design of transportation structures projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to be viewed as a subject matter expert and provide technical advice to staff to ensure the successful execution of projects and help drive the growth of the IL Structural group.\n\nLocation\nThis position will have a hybrid schedule. When in the office, you will work in either our Chicago, IL or Naperville, IL office.\n\nKey Projects\n\nIDOT – I‑39 Reconstruction: Designing multiple new bridge structures along the reconstructed I‑39 corridor, including the complex Ramp BD over US 20 bridge – a three‑span continuous steel curved plate girder structure with steel straddle bent piers.\n\nCDOT – 100th Street Bascule Bridge Rehabilitation Project: Developing a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for this historic structure, including complete replacement of the truss structure over the river.\n\nCity of Elgin – Kimball Street Bridge over Fox River Reconstruction Project: Completing preliminary design for the full reconstruction of the existing 11‑span bridge with a new five‑span continuous steel haunched girder structure, incorporating a new grade‑separated multi‑use path crossing of Kimball by the Fox River Trail.\n\nElk Grove Village – Arlington Heights Road Pedestrian Bridge Project: Creating a new grade‑separated connection to the Busse Woods Forest Preserve with an 850‑ft curved steel and concrete structure, featuring a 140‑ft steel V‑frame structure crossing over the roadway and aesthetic enhancements throughout.\n\nContractor Engineering: Working for industry‑leading contractors to deliver demolition plans and erection plans with a focus on complex structures, including highly skewed steel and concrete spans along the Illinois Tollway; steel plate girder river crossings with spans exceeding 300‑ft; signature tied arch bridges.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nMentor and direct the advancement of technical skills of staff while executing projects.\n\nManage technical elements of a project, including assessing required analyses and selecting practical approaches (software, design assumptions, etc.).\n\nPerform, review, and manage technical analysis and design; ensure completeness of design details.\n\nCommunicate technical progress and issues to the Project Manager promptly and continuously.\n\nAdhere to internal quality control, documentation, and project tracking procedures.\n\nContribute to other project work as a technical specialist or advisor.\n\nProvide input into the practice’s growth.\n\nWork toward becoming a leading subject‑matter expert on targeted elements within the discipline.\n\nQualifications\n\nB.S. Degree in Civil Engineering (Structural) required; Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Structural) required.\n\nState of Illinois Engineer‑in‑Training (SE) license required.\n\nMinimum of 8 years' experience in structural engineering with a transportation focus.\n\nExperience with IDOT, ISTHA, and CDOT preferred.\n\nAdvanced knowledge of discipline‑specific software with proficiency in key programs.\n\nAdvanced knowledge of applicable codes and standards.\n\nExperience in MicroStation required; experience in 3‑D bridge modeling highly desirable.\n\nExperience with Construction Engineering services highly desirable.\n\nCompensation & Benefits\nThe compensation range for this position is $130,000–$175,000 USD per year, based on factors such as education, qualifications, prior experience, and geographic location.
