This role is a good fit for someone who can speak comfortably with actuaries, explain complex ideas in simple terms, and work hands‑on with data. You’ll build models, analyze trends, support underwriting and product teams, and present insights to senior stakeholders.\n\nWhat You’ll Do\n\nBuild, validate, and maintain statistical and machine learning models using tools like XGBoost and related libraries.\n\nWork closely with actuaries and business partners to translate analytical results into practical guidance.\n\nExplore and analyze large datasets using SQL and Python.\n\nCreate clear and compelling visualizations using seaborn, matplotlib, and other tools.\n\nBuild executive‑ready presentations in PowerPoint to walk teams through results and recommendations.\n\nSupport production deployment of models with clean documentation and reproducible workflows.\n\nHelp drive a data‑driven culture within the organization.\n\nLocation\nThis is a fully remote role, with the exception of onboarding and optional in‑office events.\n\nSkills & Experience\n\nStrong foundation in statistics, predictive modeling, and feature engineering.\n\nHands‑on experience with Python and common ML libraries (XGBoost, scikit‑learn, pandas, numpy).\n\nSolid SQL skills for querying and wrangling data.\n\nExperience creating visualizations with seaborn, matplotlib, or similar tools.\n\nStrong presentation and communication skills, especially when explaining technical topics to actuaries and business stakeholders.\n\nProficiency with Excel and PowerPoint.\n\nAbility to work independently and manage multiple projects.\n\nBachelor’s or Master’s in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent practical experience is also considered.\n\nNice To Have\n\nExperience in insurance or financial services.\n\nExposure to actuarial concepts or underwriting workflows.\n\nFamiliarity with cloud platforms or production model deployment.\n\nPhysical Requirements\n\nMust be able to sit/stand/walk for prolonged periods of time, up to 8 hours per day, at a desk working on a computer.\n\nMust be able to use standard office equipment for extended periods of time, including a mouse, keyboard, phone and video conferencing.\n\nBenefits\n\nMedical, Dental, and Vision\n\nFlexible PTO Policy\n\n401(k) with a company match\n\nEmployee Assistance Program\n\nParental Leave\n\nDisability and Life Benefits\n\nBold Penguin believes in inclusion.
