Certified Pharmacy Technician
Position Overview:
The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for the processing of new patient medication orders and reorders. The Pharmacy Technician works with the pharmacist to ensure orders are processed in a timely and accurate manner, communicating with patients and healthcare providers as needed. The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for answering incoming calls, assisting with maintaining drug inventory, and abiding by company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibility Areas:
· Compliance: Performs all activities as directed by pharmacist in compliance with federal and state laws/regulations and pharmacy policies and procedures. Promotes safe, efficient and cost-effective medication use that complies with federal and state regulatory agencies, accrediting organizations, and HIPAA regulations.
Customer Service: Provides efficient and exemplary customer service through effective processing of orders, resolution of issues, and communication to customers.
· Process Improvement: Actively participates and facilitates quality and process improvement activities as implemented.
Specific Responsibilities
Obtain relevant patient information needed to process orders while maintaining HIPAA regulations
Accurately process new prescriptions into the pharmacy information system and process reorders as requested
Select and retrieve appropriate medications to prepare prescriptions for pharmacist verification
Screen, identify, and resolve or defer orders that have accounts receivable or clinical problems to a pharmacist
Collect and document call information according to operating procedures
Communicate and collect co-payment amounts
Packaging, weighing, and labeling medications for shipments
Maintains a clean and efficient work environment; replenishes workstation supplies as needed, cleans equipment, and maintains proper housekeeping techniques.
Participates in pharmacy’s Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives
Perform all tasks in a safe and compliant manner that is consistent with company policies as well as State and Federal laws and regulations.
Required Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalency required
· 1+ years of pharmacy technician experience in retail or mail order setting preferred
· Must be a registered Pharmacy Technician in the State of Kentucky; National Certification (CPhT) Preferred.
