Integrated Pest Management Technician
Overview:
As an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining pest-free cultivation environments while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and quality requirements. You will be responsible for scouting, creating scouting reports, collecting soil and leaf tissue samples, communicating with your manager, performing pesticide applications, and additional tasks as needed.
Responsibilities:
Pesticide applications: IPM Technician will be responsible for following the application schedule that has been developed for that facility.
Scouting and Scouting Reports: Visually inspect plants and their surrounding environment to identify and monitor pest and diseases issues, as well as other potential concerns. These observations are reported in scouting reports and communicated to your manager.
Continuous Learning: Stay updated on the latest advancements in pest management technologies, tools, and techniques. Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements for pest management.
Continuous Improvement: stay informed about emerging pest threats, new control technologies, and regulatory updates relevant to the cannabis industry.
Task Execution: Assist with additional duties as assigned to meet the facility needs.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in entomology, biology, horticulture, or related field preferred).
Previous experience in pest control or integrated pest management is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of common pests, their biology and behavior.
Familiarity with IPM principles and practices, specifically the use of non-chemical control methods.
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Highly detail-oriented with good organizational abilities.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements concerning pesticide use, safety, and record keeping in the cannabis industry.
Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in greenhouse and indoor cultivation environments, including exposure to varying temperatures, humidity levels, and lighting conditions.
Capable of bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying heavy equipment up to 50 lb.
Capable of working on your feet for extended periods of time.
Comfortable working at heights and using ladders or elevated platforms for pest inspections and treatments.
