The Controller is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of the YMCA association and supports accurate financial reporting, internal controls, and fiscal accountability across all locations. This position works closely with the CFO and leadership to ensure timely monthly closings, reconciliations, payroll support, payable and receivable processing, and audit preparation. We are determined: above all else, we are on a relentless quest to make our community stronger beginning with you.\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:\nProcess and review journal entries, accruals, allocations, and reconciliations.\nAssist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.\nReconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and credit card statements.\nEnsure accurate coding of revenues and expenses.\nOversee accounts payable processes including invoice entry, approvals, and payment processing.\nMonitor accounts receivable balances and assist with collections as needed.\nEnsure accurate cash receipt processing and deposits.\nAssist with payroll reconciliations and payroll-related journal entries.\nAssist the CFO with annual budget preparation and forecasting.\nPrepare departmental and branch financial reports.\nSupport directors with financial analysis and reporting requests.\nMonitor spending trends and assist with variance analysis.\nAssist CFO with annual audit preparation and supporting documentation.\nMaintain accounting records and documentation for compliance purposes.\nEnsure adherence to YMCA fiscal policies and internal controls.\nHelp improve accounting workflows and efficiencies across branches.\nAssist with credit card management and purchasing controls.\nLEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES:\nFiscal management\nDecision Making & Critical Thinking\nCollaboration\nQUALIFICATIONS:\nAssociate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.\nMinimum 3–5 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.\nNonprofit or multi-location accounting experience preferred.\nUnderstanding of accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger accounting, excel and accounting software systems\nStrong organizational skills and attention to detail.\nAbility to manage deadlines and multiple priorities independently.\nWORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
