In this role, you’ll lead the backroom team, manage schedules, oversee inventory receiving, and maintain a clean, organized operation from the dock to the floor. If you are a dependable leader who takes pride in efficiency, safety, and getting things done right, we’d love to have you on our team.\n\nWhat You’ll Do\n\nNo two days are exactly the same, but here’s what you can expect:\n\nProvide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and making every interaction a positive one\n\nPlan, prepare, and adjust work schedules, assign employees to specific duties, and follow up to ensure tasks are completed properly and on time\n\nReceive product from trucks, verify invoices for accuracy, sign vendor paperwork, and receive all vendor orders\n\nUnload trucks using forklifts and ensure product is placed in a non-intrusive area before delivering items to the appropriate department\n\nProtect the cold food chain and maintain the integrity of all product throughout the receiving process\n\nCoordinate the receipt and secure storage of controlled items including liquor, cigarettes, and pharmacy inventory\n\nProcess returned items with drivers and ensure signed receipts are returned to the accounting office in a timely manner\n\nEnsure receipts are taken to accounting promptly and work with company subsidiaries to receive product\n\nMaintain a clean, organized backroom and ensure cardboard and trash areas are cleaned daily\n\nMaintain cleanliness of the dock area and behind the store\n\nMaintain the area for sale items to ensure convenience for the management team\n\nStay aware of store needs, particularly in the grocery department, and work with internal customers in a timely and efficient manner\n\nKeep training certifications current including forklift certification\n\nPerform small equipment repairs for store departments as needed\n\nWork in a safe and efficient manner to reduce product damage and spoilage\n\nAssist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned\n\nMaintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines\n\nReport to work when scheduled and on time\n\nYour Skills\n\nTo be successful, you’ll need to be able to:\n\nLead and manage backroom employees, maintaining high standards and a productive work environment\n\nFollow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables\n\nPerform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately\n\nUnderstand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing\n\nWork effectively as part of a team to keep the store running smoothly and efficiently\n\nReporting Relationships\n\nAccountable and Reports to: District Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home; Service Managers\n\nDirect Reports: Backroom Employees\n\nEducation and Experience\n\nHigh school diploma or equivalent experience required\n\n6 months to 1 year of similar or related experience required\n\nSupervisory experience preferred\n\nPhysical Requirements\n\nAbility to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 100 pounds or more, with or without mechanical assistance\n\nContinuously stand and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, or similar material-handling equipment (required operator certification must be completed prior to independent use)\n\nWork in cooler or freezer environments for extended periods\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades to cut, trim, or grind product\n\nWhere applicable to the role, and in accordance with applicable age and legal requirements: operate a cardboard baler or compactor\n\nWhere applicable to the role: perform repetitive motions associated with dough mixing, scaling, and proofing\n\nAbility to unload, lift, stock, and rotate incoming truck freight and merchandise\n\nWorking Environment\n\nThis role is performed in a backroom and store environment where you will be active and on your feet throughout your shift. You will have continual exposure to dirt and frequent exposure to temperature extremes, dampness, equipment movement hazards, and cleaning chemicals or solvents.
