Our decision-making is guided by our values of integrity, respect, humility, welcoming, and determination.\nBasic Responsibilities:\nFacilitates communication between teachers and school staff and Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing student(s) in classrooms and various venues using American Sign Language effectively.\n\nESSENTIAL DUTIES:\n\nProvides sign language interpreter services using a strong understanding of American Sign Language (ASL), both expressively and receptively, and Deaf culture.\nInterprets discussions, conversations, meetings, events, and other spoken word situations using American Sign Language or another manual sign system appropriate for the language and the cultural background of Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing students in educational settings and/or school-related events.\nAssists in creating interpreter schedules to cover all students and staff requiring services.\nCollaborates with community professionals to gain an understanding of relevant concepts to better facilitate translation for Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing clients.\nWorks effectively as a team with other sign language interpreters, Easterseals Interpreters, and staff.\nMust be able to travel to various locations in the Easterseals CCD service area to fulfill position responsibilities.\nAssist with the arrangement and maintenance of all necessary contractual agreements for interpreting services.\nPerforms other duties (or functions) as assigned.\nQualifications:\nTravel between multiple sites may be required.\nMust have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.\nMust have proof of auto insurance.\nA Criminal Background Check must meet the requirements of the State of Ohio for involvement in direct service capacity.\nBachelor’s degree from an accredited Interpreter Training program.\n\nCORE COMPETENCIES – KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES/ATTRIBUTES\n\nAbility to work with a broad range of individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds within the organization and in the general community.\nAbility to represent the agency, its programs and services, and its staff when providing services within the community.\nAbility to communicate effectively, verbally, in American Sign Language, and in writing.\nAbility to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and signed sentences\nAbility to interpret information and ideas to persons served to achieve understanding\nAbility to maintain confidentiality.\nAwareness of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing culture as well as disability issues.\nAbility to problem-solve issues.\nWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other program-specific software\nSelf-motivated and able to work independently.\nMust be honest, dependable, and able to meet deadlines.\nMust exercise sound judgment in making decisions and act accordingly.\nServe as a cultural and linguistic resource to both consumers and providers.\nAccurately complete and submit required documentation and invoices promptly to ensure compliance with standards of operation.\nMaintains awareness of best practices, emerging trends, and new legislation relating to the Sign Language/Interpreting functional area.\nAttends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite.
