Language Technician

Language Technician The Language Technician will serve as the project coordinator for the Language in the Living Room program. This position will lead the development of digital language material which will include embedded audio files, applications and assessments. The Language Technician will also provide support to community members learning to use the digital applications. Hours for this position will include some evening and weekend work for workshops, camp and other special events. Travel may be required with this position.Essential Qualifications High School Diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) required and one(1) year of experienceDemonstrated living knowledge of Anishinabek traditionsFamiliarity with Anishinabek language and cultureExperience working with Apple products and mobile applicationsExperience working with youth and familiesDuties and Responsibilities Planning, preparation and testing the digitized language curriculum; assist the Language/Culture Director during workshops, camp, ongoing classes and other special eventsAssist Language/Culture Director with coordinating activities for preservation of language resource material including research, collection and duplication of printed and video/audiotaped materials and digitizing of materials, in cooperation with appropriate Tribal staff, committees and partnersEncourage and support participation by the Tribal community in educational and preservation activitiesOversee data collection process related to project evaluationAttend Tribal, state and national level meetings, as requiredFunction as part of the Department by covering office duties as needed and interacting with Citizens in both formal and informal settings, building relationships and trustEnhance personal language skills and knowledgeObtains training in language preservation and education, at the direction of Language/Culture DirectorHelp to create, promote and maintain a supportive and nurturing learning environmentMaintain confidentiality of all files and accounts of the Language/Culture ProgramRecognizes and is sensitive to the cultural dimension inherent in Native American communitiesParticipate in community events as requiredOther Skills and Abilities Ability to understand, gain knowledge and incorporate Anishinabek values, culture and customs into activities and servicesAbility to understand, respect and value the Pottawatomi language and cultureEstablish a good rapport with youth and communityAbility to work with language learners of varied technology competency and age levelsAbility to prioritize and plan work activitiesDemonstrate accuracy and thoroughnessContribute to building a positive team spiritShow respect and sensitivity for cultural differencesApply feedback to improve performanceDevelop innovative approaches, ideas and make improvements based on resultsAbility to work a flexible scheduleMust attend training as required/authorized by Tribal policy and proceduresMust possess a strong work ethic including being service-orientatedMust have excellent interpersonal, self-starter, organizational and time management skillsPossess effective written and oral communication skillsMust have a high level of accuracy and attention to detailAbility to manage multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities in a professional mannerPossess the ability to operate standard office equipmentAbility to work in a team-orientated environment and maintain an effective team working relationship with coworkersMust be able to maintain confidentiality according to Tribal, State and Federal standards and guidelinesConditions of Employment Occasional non-traditional hours including working evenings and weekends as assignedAbility and willingness to travel for work assignments, meetings and continuing educationThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by persons assigned to this job.
