Clinical Nursing Instructor - Behavioral Health GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

On a part-time basis in assigned area hospitals and other health care institutions, supervise, instruct, and evaluate students in a lab/simulation/clinical setting. Clinical rotations may vary depending on availability of clinical sites. Position: Clinical Nurse Instructor - Behavioral Health Classification: Unclassified Department: Nursing Report To: Dean of Health Education ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (% OF THE TIME): Constant (67-100%) Supervise, demonstrate, and teach student nurses in a clinical setting according to established nursing standards. Assignments may include various delivery formats, methods, work schedules, and locations. Evaluate, report, and record student performance and progress according to College and nursing program guidelines. Frequent (34-66%) Monitor student progress and performance and make referrals when deemed necessary to other College personnel, such as the Dean of Health Education and other instructors, counselors, Financial Aid, etc. for more specialized information and assistance. Orient students to clinical sites. Conduct pre- and post-conferences. Attend and serve on assigned committees of the Nursing Program and the College. Be available to advise and assist students at periods of time designated by the supervisor. Occasional (10-33%) Regularly engage in professional development activities to maintain currency in occupational area. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Represent the College in a positive manner with prospective, former, and current students, staff, and the community. Ability to organize and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly. Present oneself in the clinical setting in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with program and College guidelines, policies, and practices. Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise sound judgment when making decisions. Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and other contacts. Read, understand, and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written form. Possess strong human relations skills and ability to effectively relate to diverse personalities. Be a creative, energetic, and self-motivated individual with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills. Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and educational media equipment. SPECIAL DEMANDS Position involves sitting or standing most of the time in a classroom/laboratory setting. Constant (67-100%) reaching, standing, walking, lifting, manual dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive, motion and viewing various types of close visual work. Frequent (34-66%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, texture by touching with skin, particularly in fingertips. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (10-33%). Must have valid driver's license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance. Required to travel between facilities utilizing personal vehicle. Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS BSN or sustained progress toward BSN required. Two years clinical experience required. Prior teaching experience preferred. Must be currently licensed as a registered nurse in Iowa. (Individuals are currently licensed when licensed in another state and recognized for licensure in Iowa, pursuant to the nurse licensure compact contained in Iowa Code Section 152E.1).
