Legal Counsel, Litigation and Compliance
This position can be based in Durham, NC or Salt Lake City, UT and offers a hybrid schedule (50% onsite, 50% remote) with an every-other-Friday-off schedule (9/8/80).We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our Global Center of Excellence for Litigation. This role will support global litigation, investigations, and enforcement matters, working closely with regional legal teams and business leaders to manage disputes, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong litigation experience, strategic problem-solving skills, and the ability to balance risk while supporting business objectives.Litigation & Dispute ResolutionManage commercial litigation, product liability disputes, and pre-litigation matters globally.Develop and implement litigation strategies in collaboration with regional legal teams and external counsel.Oversee discovery, document preservation, legal holds, and eDiscovery processes.Investigations & Risk MitigationConduct and support internal workplace investigations in coordination with compliance and HR.Assist in managing government investigations, enforcement actions, and regulatory inquiries.Provide risk assessments and strategic legal guidance to prevent disputes.Partner with business teams to improve contract terms and mitigate litigation risks.Legal Operations & Budget ManagementHelp manage litigation budgets, outside counsel spend, and case tracking.Implement technology solutions to enhance litigation efficiency.Work closely with regional litigation counsel, compliance, IP, HR, and business units.Support training initiatives to improve risk awareness and litigation preparedness.Liaise with regulators, enforcement agencies, and external legal teams as needed.Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.7+ years of litigation experience, preferably in a corporate in-house role or top-tier law firm.~ Experience in commercial litigation, government investigations, or regulatory enforcement.Preferred Education, Training and Experience~ Understand complex information and interpret it accurately, often requiring critical thinking and analysis to grasp the full picture.Skilled in MS Office tools to include but not limited to Outlook, Teams, Word, and ExcelFamiliarity with eDiscovery processes, risk assessments, and alternative dispute resolution.Domestic travel required: 10% International travel required: This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMerieux's bonus program.
