Health Information Management Clerk

Clerk: Health Information ManagementJoin our Health Information Management Team!The HIM Clerk is responsible for supporting daily HIM operations including Roll-A-Dex scanning project, release of information (ROI), answering phone calls, birth certificate processing and maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of the medical record. This role plays an important role in ensuring compliance with HIPAA, federal and state privacy regulations, organizational policies, and medical record documentation standards.This is a non-exempt, full-time positionAnticipated schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Occasional weekend or holiday coverage may be required for birth certificate processing.Starting pay: $20/hourEssential duties/ Daily operations:Complete scanning project accurately and timely.Scan, index, upload, and quality review patient records within the electronic medical record system.Maintain accuracy, completeness, and organization of patient health information.Process Release of Information (ROI) requests in accordance with HIPAA, federal regulations, state regulations, and organizational policies.Review authorizations to ensure requests are complete, valid, and legally compliant prior to releasing records.Retrieve, prepare, and securely release medical records to authorized requestors.Always maintain strict confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI).Accurately document and track record requests and disclosures.Answer incoming HIM phone calls and assist patients, providers, attorneys, insurance companies, and internal departments professionally and timely.Assist with birth certificate processing and required documentation.Respond appropriately to questions regarding medical record requests and HIM processes.Conduct quality checks to ensure accuracy of scanned and released documentation.Assist with record retrieval, filing and other HIM duties as assigned.Stay current with HIPAA, privacy regulations, release of information requirements, and HIM best practices.Minimum requirements:Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and confidentiality requirements.Knowledge of Release of Information (ROI) processes preferred.Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team.
