Our fast paced and casual work environment is highly focused on “Working to Wow” our customers, community, and employees.The Prototype Welder/Fabricator supports Product Engineering by building, modifying, and refining prototype components and assemblies. This role works closely with engineers and designers to transform concepts, drawings, and CAD models into functional prototypes used for testing, validation, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is highly versatile, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working in a fast‑changing, low‑volume environment.Primary DutiesFabricate and weld prototype parts and assemblies using TIG, MIG, and other welding processesWork directly with Product Engineers to review designs, drawings, and concepts and provide manufacturability feedbackInterpret CAD drawings, engineering prints, sketches, and verbal instructionsBuild first‑article prototypes and support design iterations and revisionsModify existing prototypes based on test results or engineering changesSelect materials, tooling, and fabrication methods appropriate for prototype buildsPerform cutting, forming, bending, drilling, fixturing, and assembly operationsAbility to set up and operate fabrication equipment including welders, saws, grinders, sanders, cutting torch, hand-held plasma, drill press, iron worker, and basic hand tools.Inspect prototypes for fit, function, and weld qualityDocument build processes, issues, and improvement opportunitiesMaintain a safe, clean, and organized fabrication workspaceSupport testing, teardown, and root‑cause analysis as neededQualificationsAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings and basic GD&T preferredStrong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skillsAbility to work with minimal direction in an evolving development environmentComfortable collaborating across engineering, testing, and manufacturing teamsHigh attention to detail and craftsmanshipAdaptability and flexibility with changing prioritiesStrong communication skills, both verbal and writtenMechanical aptitude and hands‑on creativityContinuous improvement mindsetEducation / ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certifications preferredWelding and fabrication experience, preferably in a prototype, R&D, or low‑volume environmentProficiency in TIG/MIG welding and CNC brake press progammingExperience working with aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and other materials#SuperATVDorman Products is an equal opportunity employer; we value a combination of ideas, perspectives, and cultures at our company.
