Have a high level of impact and work for an organization associated with 17 Nobel Prizes!\n\nBenefits\nWe invest in our employees by offering a total rewards package you can count on:\n\nExceptional health and retirement benefits, including pension or 401K-style plans\n\nA culture where you’ll belong - we are invested in our teams!\n\nIn addition to accruing vacation and sick time, we also have a Winter Holiday Shutdown every year.\n\nParental bonding leave (for both mothers and fathers)\n\nYou Will\n\nSupport daily operation and troubleshooting of electronic systems for the 88-Inch Cyclotron.\n\nPerform maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and performance optimization on subsystems including high-voltage/high-power electronics, RF systems, digital and analog controls, and beam diagnostics.\n\nCollaborate with senior engineers and technical staff on system upgrades and integration of new electronics.\n\nDocument circuit designs, schematics, test results, and system configurations.\n\nMonitor system performance and provide regular updates to the cyclotron operations team.\n\nParticipate in design reviews, hazard analyses, and technical meetings to ensure quality and safety compliance.\n\nServe as a key contact for electrical safety compliance, supporting inspections, procedure reviews, and Electrical Safety Officer initiatives.\n\nMaintain accurate records and logs to support operational continuity and regulatory requirements.\n\nManage inventory of critical components and electronics to ensure availability for current and future projects.\n\nPromote and adhere to LBNL’s safety protocols, fostering a proactive culture of risk awareness and workplace safety.\n\nQualifications\nAccelerator Electronics Engineer Level 2\n\nBachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least 2 years of experience, or an advanced degree with no experience, or equivalent work experience.\n\nStrong foundation in analog and digital electronics design, troubleshooting, and maintenance.\n\nExperience with high-voltage power supplies, RF systems, control systems, and beam diagnostics.\n\nSkilled in using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, signal generators, and power supplies.\n\nSolid understanding of circuit design, signal processing, and power distribution principles.\n\nFamiliarity with CAD tools for schematic capture and PCB layout (e.g., OrCAD, Altium, KiCad) is a plus.\n\nExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex electronic systems independently or as part of a team.\n\nClear written and verbal communication skills for documentation and cross-team collaboration.\n\nStrong safety awareness and ability to follow LBNL’s EH&S policies and Electrical Safety Program.\n\nWillingness to learn from senior staff and participate in ongoing professional development.\n\nAbility to obtain LBNL QEW2 electrical safety qualification.\n\nPhysically capable of lifting up to 25 lbs alone and up to 50 lbs with assistance.\n\nComfortable with prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and working in confined or elevated spaces.\n\nAbility to perform fine motor tasks such as soldering and component handling with visual accuracy.\n\nMust adhere to strict safety protocols in a high-risk environment, including exposure to RF radiation, high voltage, high current, chemicals, mechanical systems, radiological hazards, and stored energy.\n\nRequired to wear a dosimeter while working in the 88-Inch Cyclotron facility.\n\nAccelerator Electronics Engineer Level 3\n\nBachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least 5 years of experience, or an advanced degree with 3 years of experience, or equivalent work experience.\n\nExperience with high-frequency electronics and RF components used in accelerator systems.\n\nExperience working with safety systems for high-power and high-voltage electronic equipment.\n\nAdvanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.\n\nAdditional Information\n\nAppointment Type: This is a full-time 2 year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.\n\nSalary Range:\n\nThe expected salary for the Accelerator Electronics Engineer Level 2 position is $114,000 - $139,000, which fits into the full salary of $101,076 - $170,604 depending upon the candidate’s skills, knowledge, and abilities. This includes education, certifications, and years of experience.\n\nThe expected salary for the Accelerator Electronics Engineer Level 3 position is $135,000 - $165,000, which fits into the full salary of $120,252 - $202,884 depending upon the candidate’s skills, knowledge, and abilities.
