This position will sit 100% remote, working typical Alaska business hours 7-4 / 8-5 AKT Monday – Friday. This role is equivalent to a senior Network Engineering position and will be responsible for engineering planning, design, equipment evaluation, project management, installation specifications, and test & acceptance for existing and advanced networks to ensure cost-effective enhancements and upgrades to meet network requirements.\r\nThe engineer shall work in close collaboration with Inside Plant Engineering group, Network Planning, Outside Plant Engineering, and Operations. This position will be self-directing, relies on extensive experience to accomplish tasks, and has a wide degree of creativity and latitude. Expectations are to help direct the work of the engineering group and provide guidance to the work group's development.\r\nResponsibilities\r\nMain responsibility will be writing technical workorders with clear goal, vision and detailed step-by-step instruction to complete complex work\r\nArchitecture, implementation and managing Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPN network solutions\r\nMonitoring and maintaining new and existing BGP peering for Internet traffic\r\nDesigning and implementing new DIA / IP-Transit services\r\nBasic understanding for FTTH / DSL to deploy and support dual-stack subscriber management\r\nImplement and support QoS based converged data / voice network\r\nSupport Solarwinds and various industry leading NMS for 24×7 NOC monitoring and integrity of core network / services\r\nStrong team-player attitude to communicate / collaborate / support multiple teams\r\nWilling to work on-call troubleshooting with other team members and network techs\r\nAble to evaluate, analyze and validate new technologies with carriers / vendors\r\nGrow and educate junior / entry level network engineers\r\nCreate and maintain complete technical documentation\r\nHelp drive and support automation for complex processes / workflows\r\nSuggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scalability\r\nShould be able to multitask with multi-project assignments\r\nSpecific Task Description\r\nEngineer and implement network enhancements in a cost-effective manner using sound professional business approaches. Perform cost / benefit trade-offs.\r\nProvide engineering and technical expertise and support for both internal and external customers.\r\nPlan, develop, design, and manage network projects in conjunction with capital plan and customer demand.\r\nEvaluate network security issues when designing a network and in conjunction with the Information Security Office recommend and implement changes to minimize network security concerns.\r\nEvaluate and recommend new, advanced technologies (both software and hardware platforms) that will be most cost-effective in meeting network service requirements.\r\nMaintain inside plant records and drawings for facilities.\r\nInitiate a positive interface with all departments to facilitate the timely completion of work assignments.\r\nPlan overall equipment layouts in central offices and remote facilities.
