We provide a high-performance, secure, and reliable web ecosystem for our users (riders, drivers, eaters, and our internal operations and logistics teams) through developer tools, systems, and frameworks.\n\nA big part of that foundation is how our code gets built, tested, and shipped. We own Uber's web monorepo and the CI and build systems that thousands of engineers depend on every day. Our goal is to make every change fast to validate and safe to release, using a modern tech stack. That means incremental and cached builds, reliable and fast CI, reproducible pipelines from commit to production, and tooling that catches problems before they reach users.\n\nOur products include Fusion.js, the React framework behind hundreds of internal and external web applications, and Base Web, Uber's React component library. We also own the monorepo build and CI platform that ties them together.\n\nAs a senior engineer, you'll help make Uber's web engineers productive and its web applications high quality by owning the systems that decide how quickly and reliably code builds, tests, and reaches production.\n\nWhat you’ll do\n\nBuild developer tooling that makes product engineers more productive and their applications more reliable, performant, and secure.\nOwn the build, test, and CI systems for a large web monorepo, making them fast, reliable, and scalable as the codebase and the number of engineers grow.\nDrive fleet-wide change and new framework capabilities, so they land across many teams with minimal disruption.\nShape the technical direction of our platform through design docs. Use open source where it fits, and contribute improvements back.\nMentor engineers and collaborate across teams to deliver company-wide projects.\n\nBasic Qualifications\n\n5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years working on build systems, CI/CD, or developer tooling.\nStrong TypeScript and Node.js experience, including debugging and profiling Node processes and build tooling.\nWorking knowledge of the modern JavaScript toolchain (pnpm/Yarn/npm, Vite, Rspack/webpack, esbuild or similar bundlers) and at least one major web framework, ideally React.\nHands-on experience with a large-scale build system in a monorepo (Bazel, Buck2, Pants, Nx, Turborepo, or similar), including diagnosing slow, flaky, or non-hermetic builds.\nExperience building and running CI/CD pipelines (Buildkite, GitHub Actions, or similar) with reproducible, containerized builds from development through production.\nA track record of leading technical initiatives that affected many engineers or services.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\n6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years working on build systems, CI/CD, or developer tooling.\nExperience writing Bazel rules or extensions, or operating remote caching or remote execution.\nExperience with Docker, Kubernetes, and service-oriented or distributed systems.\nExperience with modern web testing, such as cross-browser, integration, and visual regression testing (e.g., Playwright, Vitest).\nFamiliarity with web security fundamentals (CORS, CSP, CSRF, XSS) and software supply chain security (dependency auditing, provenance, lockfile integrity).\nExperience with GraphQL, gRPC, WebSockets, or Server-Sent Events.\nExperience building tooling that supports AI-assisted development workflows.\nOpen source contributions or maintainership.\n\nFor San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $202,000 per year - USD $224,000 per year.\n\nYou will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.\n\nReady to Ride?\n\nThis isn't the kind of place where you follow a playbook — it's where you help write one. If you're driven by impact, energized by challenge, and ready to shape how the world moves — we'd love to hear from you.\n\nYou may be eligible for bonuses, equity, and other compensation, as well as a range of benefits. Explore our benefits.\n\nOffices remain key to collaboration and Uber's culture. Unless approved for full remote work, employees must spend at least 50% of their time in-office. Some roles, like those at greenlight hubs, require full-time in-office presence. Ask your Recruiter for details about this role's requirements.\n\nUber is proud to be an Equal Opportunity employer.
