We have a growing data environment in GCP (BigQuery, Cloud SQL) across ecommerce, wholesale, and fulfillment systems (Shopify, ShipHero, NuOrder, etc.). This is a foundational role . You will be the first dedicated data hire, responsible for bringing structure to our data, defining how we use it, and helping the company make better decisions. You’ll work directly with leadership and collaborate with a small technical team, while also mentoring junior team members who will support analytics efforts over time. Over time, this role is expected to grow into leading data team as the company scales. This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys both building systems and developing people .\n\n**MUST BE ABLE TO WORK IN OFFICE: AUSTIN HQ**\n\nOwn and Improve Our Data Environment\n\nOwn and improve our data environment in GCP (BigQuery, Cloud SQL)\n\nStructure and model data across ecommerce, wholesale, and fulfillment systems\n\nDefine core company metrics and ensure consistency across teams\n\nIdentify and resolve data discrepancies across systems\n\nOwn Analytics & Reporting\n\nDesign and build dashboards used by leadership and operations\n\nReplace ad-hoc spreadsheet workflows with scalable solutions\n\nEnsure data is accessible and understandable across the company\n\nDrive Business Insights\n\nPartner with leadership to define what we should measure and why\n\nAnalyze product performance, inventory trends, and customer behavior\n\nProactively surface insights that impact revenue, operations, and efficiency\n\nBuild & Develop the Data Function\n\nAct as the owner of data and analytics within the company\n\nMentor and guide junior team members supporting analytics work\n\nEstablish best practices for data modeling, reporting, and governance\n\nHelp define the roadmap and structure for the future data team\n\nContribute to hiring and scaling the team over time\n\nWhat We’re Looking For\n\n4-8+ years of experience in data analytics, analytics engineering, or similar roles\n\nStrong SQL skills and experience with modern data warehouses (BigQuery preferred)\n\nExperience building and owning dashboards used by business stakeholders\n\nExperience working in environments with messy or evolving data\n\nProven ability to work independently and bring structure to ambiguity\n\nStrong communication skills—able to translate data into business insights\n\nExperience mentoring or guiding others (formal or informal)\n\nNice to Have (Not Required)\n\nExperience in ecommerce or retail (Shopify, inventory, order data, etc.)\n\nFamiliarity with GCP (BigQuery, Cloud SQL)\n\nExperience with dbt or data modeling frameworks\n\nBasic Python for analysis or automation\n\nExperience working across multiple operational systems (WMS, ERP, etc.)\n\nWhat Success Looks Like\n\nCore company metrics are clearly defined and trusted across teams\n\nData discrepancies across systems are identified and significantly reduced\n\nLeadership has reliable dashboards for key decisions\n\nReporting is standardized and scalable (not ad-hoc)\n\nJunior team members are contributing effectively under your guidance\n\nA clear roadmap exists for how the data function will scale with the business\n\nGrowth Opportunity\nThis role is designed to evolve into a senior leadership position within the company.
