(Note: Employees are instructed to seek assistance when lifting heavy objects), and\nbeing able to walk safely on surfaces that can be wet or snow covered on occasions. Additionally, employees are\nfrequently required to climb ladders and steps a distance of up to 25 feet and walk long distances throughout the\nwork shift. Walkways are often narrow (approximately 2 feet in width) requiring good balance and coordination.\nWorking areas are tight, enclosed, and do not allow a great deal of space from time to time. All positions require\neffective eye-hand coordination to perform detailed work. All employees must be able to wear personal protective\nequipment including a life vest, safety shoes, clothing, dust mask and hearing protection.\n\nWorking conditions are frequently dusty with heat and cold extremes according to season. Work surfaces may be\nslippery and hazardous from time to time. Persons must be able to hear safety signals (such as horns, whistles, and\nthe human voice), and be able to read and understand safety manuals and other written material such as labels,\nwarnings, gauges and machinery instrumentation.\n\nThe position requires effective written communication in order to complete required daily reports. Effective verbal\ncommunication is also necessary in order to allow the individual to give/receive instructions over a radio, loud\nspeaker or person to person. Knowledge of hand signals will also be required. Position requires the ability to\nremember and follow established procedures for maintaining and operating various diesel and gas engines,\ngenerators, compressors and winches used in the operation.\n\nIn addition to the above, Welder/Fitter positions involve frequent heavy physical labor including:\nOperation of arc welders and cutting torches involving repeated bending, squatting, and use of hands\nand vision to perform detailed cutting and welding. Employees must be able to wear personal\nprotective devices such as vision, clothing, and head protection;\nLifting and carrying steel pieces and fittings weighing 50 to 60 pounds;\nSledge hammering and use of other hand held tools.\nIn addition to the general requirements above, Barge Cleaning positions involve frequent heavy physical labor\nincluding:\nLifting, carrying, and placing of pumps weighing up to 125 lbs. (Note: Employees are instructed to\nseek assistance when lifting heavy objects);\nMoving and carrying hoses weighing up to 70 lbs. by pulling, tugging, and dragging them long\ndistances; and\nLifting buckets of material hand over hand from a standing position.
