Watch your students grow, succeed, and positively impact communities across Arizona.Don't wait-apply today and be the difference that inspires change!Job Duties:Teaches all subjects to students who have not completed full academic achievement, potentially through K-12Appropriately implements teacher-designed lesson plans and exhibits collaboration between classroom and Special Education teachers for the benefit of studentsAccesses students' progress and develops an appropriate education planDevelops and corrects diagnostic tests, maintains educational records, and provides the unit with monthly work evaluationsMaintains records of student performance and uses them to guide instructional decisionsMaintains the security of all testing instrumentsConsults with highly qualified teachers on subject matter concerns or questionsTeaches various subjects and includes learning experiences appropriate for curriculum goals that are based on principles of effective instructionCreates and maintains a positive learning environment using effective classroom management techniquesEscorts and supervises inmates in the education building/classroomDemonstrates effective written and verbal communication skillsCollaborates with colleagues to achieve Department and Education Bureau goalsEngages in professional development and maintains required certificationsContinually adapts to improve instruction and student learningAttends required training sessions and meetingsDrives on State businessPerforms other duties appropriate to the assignmentKnowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):Knowledge of:Laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to the assignmentCurrent instructional methodologies and counseling techniquesAppropriate testing procedures and interpretation of specific testsComputers and software sufficient to perform daily tasksSkill in:Written and verbal communicationTime managementOrganization and prioritizingTypingTeaching and facilitationEstablishing and maintaining interpersonal relationshipsAbility to:Work in a prison environmentWork day and/or evening shifts at any unit teaching postProvide academic instruction and counseling to inmatesLearn and adhere to laws, rules, regulations, policies, and proceduresProvide individual and group instruction and education counselingWork cooperatively with other education staffSelective Preference(s):Pre-Employment Requirements:Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.A current, valid Arizona Department of Education (ADE) Teaching Certificate in the approved area of Elementary or Secondary.Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint CardEmployment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, a drug test, and possibly a medical/physical examination.If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.)
