Ensures the proper maintenance of accounting records, reporting of financial activities, and other related duties in the daily administration of the department. The Controller provides support to the operational departments and is a key participant in the development of the organization's annual budget.\r\nJOB DUTIES\r\nOversee work performed by Accounting Manager, Financial Analyst, and AP Specialist.\r\nAssist CFO in the preparation of monthly financial statements.\r\nAssist CFO in preparation of annual organizational budget.\r\nCreates workpapers for annual external audit.\r\nBackup to the Accounting Manager (duties include grant accounting and reporting, etc) and Financial Specialist (duties include bank and credit card reconciliations, etc) positions.\r\nMonthly reconciliation of specific asset/liability GL accounts.\r\nResponsible for the completion of annual insurance applications and the allocation of insurance premiums to various departments and funds.\r\nAssist CFO with new and updating existing finance policies and procedures.\r\nPerform other duties as assigned.\r\nNECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY\r\nKnowledge of 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance.\r\nKnowledge of PL 93-638 Compacts for IHS and BIA.\r\nKnowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).\r\nKnowledge of governmental accounting practices and principles.\r\nSkilled in preparing financial statements, schedules and reports for informational, auditing and operational use.\r\nSkilled in reconciling accounts, records, and reports.\r\nSkilled at developing departmental and organizational operational budgets.\r\nSkilled in reviewing and verifying accuracy of data.\r\nWorking knowledge of Microsoft 365 products (specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).\r\nExcellent interpersonal skills in the areas of creative problem-solving, conflict resolution, group planning and decision-making processes.\r\nAbility to motivate and direct the workflow of department staff.\r\nAbility to make sound, independent judgments within established policies and procedures.\r\nAbility to organize own work, setting priorities and meeting critical deadlines.\r\nAbility to prepare and deliver clear, concise, timely, and persuasive reports, both orally and in writing.\r\nMust have strong customer service, ethics and interpersonal skills necessary to interact positively with diverse range of agencies, organizations and individuals.\r\nStrong understanding and sensitivity to Alaska Native culture and lifestyle.\r\nAbility to maintain strict confidentiality as required for HIPAA, other regulations and organization matters.\r\nQualifications\r\nREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)\r\nBachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.\r\n5+ years of full cycle accounting experience and/or auditing experience.\r\n2+ years of management experience (teams of 3+ staff members).\r\nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (Education)\r\nMaster's degree in accounting, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) license.\r\nWORKING CONDITIONS\r\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
