With a focus on environmental sustainability and a dedication to preserving open spaces, Plainsboro provides a high quality of life for those seeking a balance between urban amenities and a connection to nature.About the Position: The Township of Plainsboro is seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Camp Director to assist in leading our summer camp program. The Assistant Camp Director will be responsible for assisting with the overall planning, implementation, and supervision of all aspects of the camp, ensuring a safe, fun, and enriching experience for all campers. In addition, the Assistant Camp Director is required to assume full responsibility of the camp operations in the absence of the Camp Director. The Assistant Camp Director is required to perform pre-season preliminary work in preparation for the camp commencement, including mandatory staff training(s) and camp set-up. (a flexible schedule will be considered) In addition, The Assistant Camp Director is required to attend meetings and camp set-ups during the summer camp season (fixed schedule).Camp participant population for this position consists of children in grades 1-6 and Pre-K (ages 4-5).Key Responsibilities: • Program Development & Planning:o Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive summer camp program, including daily schedules, age-appropriate activities, and special events.o Assist in the collaboration with staff to design and deliver creative and engaging curriculum in areas such as arts & crafts, sports, nature, STEM, and more. o Ensure the camp program aligns with the organization's mission and values.• Staff Management:o Assist in the recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision of a team of qualified and enthusiastic camp counselors and staff. o Assist in conducting regular staff meetings, providing ongoing feedback, and addressing any personnel issues promptly. o Assist by fostering a positive and supportive work environment for all staff members. • Camp Operations:o Assists in the oversight of daily camp operations, including set-up, clean-up, and safety procedures. o Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and best practices. o Assist in the management of camp budgets and resources effectively. o Assists in the maintaining of accurate records of camp attendance, incident reports, and other relevant data. • Communication & Collaboration:o Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders. o Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners. o Address parent/guardian concerns and questions promptly and professionally. • Risk Management & Safety:o Implement and maintain a comprehensive safety plan, including emergency procedures and first aid protocols. o Conduct regular safety inspections of camp facilities and equipment. o Ensure the well-being and safety of all campers at all times. Qualifications: • B.A. or B.S. degree (preferred) • Two years' experience in camp administration (or comparable) • Two years' experience in teaching/camp experience with grade-school population • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills • Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities • CPR / First Aid Certification (required) Desired Skills: • Experience with outdoor education and environmental programs. • Knowledge of child development and best practices in youth work. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Passion for working with children and creating positive learning experiences.
