The Assistant Controller will build out the accounting function at a start up gaming Software company. The business has scaled rapidly and the accounting infrastructure needs to catch up – close process, controls framework, audit readiness, and team. You will own that build.\nDay-to-day, you will own the close process end to end, design and enforce the internal controls framework, lead the company through its first audit, and build out revenue and wallet reconciliation workflows. This is a hands-on role – you will be in the detail while also standing up the processes and documentation that let the function scale.\nYou will report directly to the Corporate Controller & VP Accounting and oversee the accounting team as it grows.\nKey Responsibilities\nCore Accounting & Close\nBuild and own a repeatable month-end close process from scratch, targeting a 5–7 day close cycle.\nDesign and maintain the chart of accounts around products (Arcade, Rips) and key drivers (deposits, payouts, promotions, chargebacks, processor fees).\nPrepare, review, and approve journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and adjustments.\nStandardize data imports, bank rules, and reconciliation workflows to maximize capacity before adding headcount.\nOwn all general ledger and sub-ledger accounting.\nControls & Compliance\nDesign and implement an internal controls framework that can withstand growth financing or external audit – documented policies, segregation of duties, system access controls, and approval workflows.\nLead first audit preparation: PBC list management, auditor scheduling, and day-to-day relationship.\nWrite and publish accounting policies and procedures.\nRevenue, Wallet Integrity & AP\nBuild and maintain a monthly and weekly player funds proof: wallet liability versus cash on hand, with exception reporting.\nOptimize accounts payable: implement vendor master management, approval flows, and spend limits using platforms such as Ramp and Bill.com.\nManage AP end to end, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and 1099 compliance.\nData & Reporting\nDevelop product-level P&Ls for Arcade and Rips (profitability by game, cohort, and channel).\nPartner with Growth and Data teams to establish a KPI source of truth.\nDeliver management reporting that supports operational and strategic decisions.\nTeam & Systems\nManage and develop the accounting team as headcount grows.\nEvaluate current systems (QuickBooks Online) and lead future system implementations as the business scales (ERP, close management tools, AP automation).\nSupport international expansion, including multi-entity general ledger structure and consolidation accounting.\nAdditional Scope\nBank and treasury operations: daily cash position, bank reconciliations, cash flow inputs.\nPayroll accounting: salary allocations between departments and entities.\nRequired Qualifications\nCPA license or equivalent.\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.\n8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a meaningful portion in industry.\nPublic accounting background (Big 4 or national firm) with audit experience.\nHas built an accounting function or team from scratch at least once.\nClose process ownership: has designed and run a month-end and year-end close, not just participated in one.\nInternal controls design and documentation.\nHas led or been the primary point of contact for an external audit.\nPeople management: has hired, trained, and managed accounting staff.\nProficiency with financial software systems and tools such as QuickBooks Online, Ramp, and Excel.\nMulti-entity general ledger experience, including intercompany accounting and consolidations.\nOn-site 5 days a week in San Francisco.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience at a high-growth startup or scale-up where accounting infrastructure was immature.\nASC 606 revenue recognition experience (implementation or ongoing ownership).\nSOX compliance experience (design or remediation, not just testing).\nSystem implementation experience (ERP migration, close management tools, AP automation).\nE-commerce, gaming, fintech, or digital platform business model exposure.\nInventory accounting experience (LCNRV,
