Multiple major initiatives have aggressive timelines, so we need someone who can contribute immediately and maintain a strong pace.ResponsibilitiesBuild and refactor Python-based data processing pipelines, analytical engines, and internal tooling that integrate with existing systems and architectures.Convert notebooks, prototypes, and exploratory code into clean, modular, testable Python modules.Implement production-grade data workflows involving large datasets, SQL tables, parquet files, Databricks/Spark, and cloud-hosted infrastructure.Create robust configuration patterns, logging, error handling, and repeatable job runners.Work with proprietary mathematical and analytical logic while preserving correctness and expected behavior.Improve performance, reliability, and maintainability of existing codebases.Collaborate directly with technical leadership to design new or updated modulesDocument implementation decisions clearly enough for future team members to maintain and extend the systemRequired QualificationsStrong professional experience with Python in production systems.Strong understanding of pandas, NumPy, SQL, and data pipeline architecture.Experience working with large datasets and performance-sensitive data workflows.Experience with Postgres, SQL Server, Databricks, Spark, parquet, or similar data platforms.Ability to refactor prototype or research-grade code into clean, maintainable modules.Strong debugging instincts and comfort working in unfamiliar codebases.Ability to write practical tests, validation scripts, and comparison tools.Comfort operating independently with incomplete but directionally clear requirements.Strong judgment about when to keep things simple and when to formalize abstractions.Clear written communication and disciplined documentation habits.Preferred QualificationsExperience with financial, logistics, scientific, economic, or time-series data.Experience migrating notebook-based workflows into production pipelines.Experience with Databricks jobs, Delta tables, or Spark-based workflows.Experience building CLI tools, scheduled jobs, or internal automation frameworks.Familiarity with software engineering practices around CI/CD, code review, observability, and deployment.Experience working with proprietary algorithms or mathematically driven business logic. What Success Looks LikeWithin the first 30 days, you are taking existing Python workflows, understanding their input/output behavior, and helping convert them into reliable production modules.Within 60 days, you are owning meaningful portions of the internal tooling and data machinery, reducing technical bottlenecks, improving reliability, and actively supporting the technical priorities of the leadership and research teams.Ideal CandidateYou are the person who can look at a 700-line notebook, identify the real system hiding inside it, and turn it into something clean without breaking the math. You are pragmatic, fast, careful, and allergic to unnecessary complexity. You care about correctness, but you also know how to move under deadline pressure.","company":"Sokn Engineering","rawCompany":"sokn engineering","city":"Wilmington","state":"NC","isRemote":false,"isActive":false,"createdAt":"2026-06-07T11:46:26.448Z","occupations":[{"code":"15-1243.01","title":"Data Warehousing Specialists","slug":"data-warehousing-specialists"},{"code":"15-1252.00","title":"Software Developers","slug":"software-developers"},{"code":"15-2051.00","title":"Data Scientists","slug":"data-scientists"}],"industries":[{"code":"541511","title":"Custom Computer Programming Services","slug":"custom-computer-programming-services"},{"code":"541512","title":"Computer Systems Design Services","slug":"computer-systems-design-services"},{"code":"513210","title":"Software Publishers","slug":"software-publishers"}],"jobPosting":{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"JobPosting","title":"Senior Python Developer","description":"Senior Python / Data Systems EngineerRole OverviewWe are looking for a Senior Python engineer to help build the internal tools, data pipelines, analytical machinery, and production systems that power our next generation of product capabilities. You will work directly with technical leadership on high-priority internal systems, proprietary analytical workflows, data processing pipelines, automation tooling, and production-grade implementations of mathematically driven logic. The ideal candidate is someone who can take partially specified technical direction, understand the intent, ask sharp questions, and turn rough prototypes or research-grade code into reliable, maintainable, production-ready systems. We are moving fast.
