Program Manager, Forest Management
Salary: $60,000-$65,000I. Position PurposeThe Program Manager, Forest Management serves as the academic administrator and leadentrepreneur responsible for the assigned program. Under the guidance and direction of theDean, this position performs in alignment with the College’s mission and strategic directionin service to students and their success.II. Program-Specific Duties And Responsibilities Responsible for Hocking College’s Forest Management Program, as well as the livelearning labs and entrepreneurial endeavors. Under the guidance and direction ofthe Dean of the School of Natural Resources & Public Safety, the Program Manager,Forest Management leads both independent project management and collaborativeefforts to create, maintain, and process materials associated with the programincluding off-campus lab sites; teaches classes each semester of the year; leadsprogram review and accreditation efforts; develops a sustainable forest managementplan for Hocking College; and supervises faculty assigned to teach courses withinthe program as well as graduate interns and student employees.III. Position Duties And Responsibilities ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:Conducts regular review of all aspects of the program in collaboration withthe program’s Advisory Board for continuous quality improvement.Conducts regular review of the program to maximize accreditationopportunities.Responsible for ensuring course fees support the sustainability of theprogram.Responsible for cultivation of leads, recruitment and enrollment of students inthe program.Provide effective day-to-day management and administration of the program.Supervise all faculty and coordinate adjunct assignments includingevaluations.Plan and oversee professional development for program faculty.Manage course schedules, assist with faculty and student issues.Communicate college policies and ensure they are followed.Manage aspects of grant funding as needed.Actively engage in Academic Affairs and Institutional activities. Serve oncommittees as assigned by the Dean.Represent the program to students, prospective students and other interestedparties at recruiting events, on and off campus.Work with Career Technical Centers and traditional secondary schools todevelop articulation agreements.Collaborate and provide programming for career/program exploration campsincluding summer camps.Lead efforts to collaborate with the marketing department to developmaterials that promote the program (e.g., publications, web page, annualreport). TEACHING AND ADVISINGDevelops and maintains relevant curriculum to ensure student employabilityupon program completion.Maintain required credit hours of teaching load per term.Work with students and faculty to resolve conflicts and serve as the secondstep in grade appeals.Drive student involvement in the advising process by maintaining sufficientadvising hours compatible with student schedules; meeting with adviseesregularly; advising students struggling with coursework; maintainingappropriate advisee files; directing students to appropriate department andCollege resources; maintaining confidentiality; evaluating graduation progressand completions. Supervise program advisors to accomplish same.Manage student files including applications. Keep track of student progressin cross disciplines and update student records. This requires workingclosely with many different offices throughout the College such asAdmissions, Student Affairs, Financial Aid, etc.Reviews graduation applications prior to final approval by the Dean.Act as the lead liaison for practicum sites for the program. MANAGES LEARNING LABORATORIES AND ENTREPRENEURIAL VENTURES:Responsible for identifying entrepreneurial ventures that are in alignment withcurriculum and course outcomes.Responsible for identifying and securing grant funds or private contracts toprovide for the costs associated with forest management services and togenerate revenue for the program.Manages purchasing, budgeting, staff, and programming at relevant facilitiesand field operations.Promotes and publicizes programs and opportunities to include the generalpublic. This includes Leisure Learning programs.Coordinates with faculty and staff within the college regarding use of thefacilities.Ensures entrepreneurial ventures are integrated in teaching in academicclasses, practicum experiences and management of facilities.Seeks partnership in support for facility maintenance and restoration,including grants and college self-performance on projects. MAINTAINS THE SOCIETY OF AMERICAN FORESTRY ACCREDITATIONEnsures all program head responsibilities are met as outlined in the SAFaccreditation guidelines.Submits substantive changes reports.Ensures all SAF accreditation guidelines are met and renewed. DEVELOPS A SUSTAINABLE HOCKING COLLEGE FOREST MANAGEMENTPLANSupervises student and temporary casual employees to complete therequired analysis and documentation to develop a Forest Management planthat balances: Natural Resources’ coursework needs, ecological integrity,and economic value.Coordinates forest management activities with the Dean of NaturalResources and Public Safety.Serves on the Land Management Committee and provides expertise relatedto BMPs (Best Management Practices) and invasive removal within HockingCollege’s forest.Works to uphold the Ohio and American Tree Farm standards to provide arenewable resource in a sustainable manner while maintaining a healthyforest that protects water, wildlife, and recreational values.Considers the future opportunity for Hocking College Forests to meet SFI(Sustainable Forestry Initiative) standards. Other Duties as assigned.Qualifications – Education, Experience, And Skills Bachelor Degree in Forest Management or a closely related field required, MasterDegree preferred. The degree must be from a SAF‐accredited orCFAB/BCAF‐accredited program. Minimum of 5 years of full-time, professional, field and/or lab experience within theForest Management field. Possess or are eligible to acquire SAF Certified Forester certification. Evidence of professional development in the field of concentration as demonstrated byactivity in professional associations, consultative practice; participation in seminars,workshops, and formal coursework, and individual reading and research. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Strong technology skills including usage of email, student information system, andlearning management system Organizational, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of subject area.
