{"schemaVersion":"jobsearcher.job.v1","id":"10d2fcf9f2b1384e62f34b61","url":"https://jobsearcher.com/jobs/10d2fcf9f2b1384e62f34b61","canonicalUrl":"https://jobsearcher.com/jobs/10d2fcf9f2b1384e62f34b61","title":"Thermal Engineer","description":"Department: Vehicle Engineering\n\nLocation: Redondo Beach\n\nCompensation: $95,000 - $115,000 / year\n\nAs a Thermal Engineer at Impulse, you will be responsible for thermal management of spacecraft from concept, analysis, and design, to implementation, testing, and flight while working closely with a fast‑paced, agile team that strives to make a high‑performance spacecraft from a clean sheet design.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nDevelop and maintain thermal models of spacecraft, systems, and components\n\nDetermine appropriate physical properties, environments, and boundary conditions\n\nSelection and design of thermal management hardware\n\nOversee and define thermal cycle and vacuum testing of components and spacecraft\n\nAnalyze test data to correlate models and improve model fidelity\n\nCollaborate with design engineers to implement effective thermal management strategies\n\nCommunicate with suppliers to determine properties and specify requirements of materials\n\nThoroughly document analyses and designs including instructions for implementation\n\nMinimum Qualifications\n\nBachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering\n\n1+ years of demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining thermal models of spacecraft, systems, components, etc.\n\n1+ years of demonstrated experience in selection/design and implementation of thermal management hardware such as heat pipes, radiators, heaters, thermal paint, tape and MLI\n\nAbility to perform thermal testing, flight/ground testing and data analysis\n\nSomeone who is uniquely creative, self‑driven, and able to lead projects to completion\n\nPreferred Skills and Experience\n\nGraduate work in numerical methods or heat transfer\n\nCreative solutions to complex problems\n\nExperience with successful thermal management strategies\n\nExperience with cryogenic fluids and fluid analysis software such as StarCCM+\n\nExperience with Siemens Simcenter / Ansys Thermal and Thermal Desktop\n\nPrior experience with spacecraft design\n\nExperience working on a launch vehicle or satellite development effort\n\nExperience in a startup or agile development environment\n\nAdditional Information\nCompensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case‑by‑case basis and may vary based on job‑related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity.
