POSITION SUMMARY:
The Planning Department assists the hospital with a range of design and construction services from light interior refresh tasks to larger interdisciplinary construction projects. These projects are spread throughout our main campus buildings (adjacent to MGH) and our satellite locations. The facilities we serve are a combination of clinical, research and administrative spaces. Everyone on the planning team is expected to have good communication skills and the ability to manage tasks independently while having a team-oriented attitude.
The Construction Project Manager primarily oversees the development, design, and construction of MEE capital construction projects. Projects typically include the coordination of multiple trades and managing a design team of consultants which may include architects, engineers, vendors and internal support services. Additional responsibilities include assistance with non-project activities such as creating & maintaining standards, updating materials library, drawing database upkeep, preparing for Joint Commission inspections and preparing presentations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Participate in strategic planning exercises as they relate to upcoming potential capital projects.
Develop clear project scope by reviewing goals and existing conditions with internal stakeholders and appropriate consultants including architects, engineers or specialty consultants.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously ranging from small-scale interior upgrades to more complex construction with multiple trades.
Work closely with design team to develop the design and construction documents, budgets and realistic schedules.
Ensure consistent communication with affected departments, facilities personnel, finance and other hospital support services throughout the design and construction process.
Review bid documents, evaluate bids and ensure contracts and proposals reflect the expected scope of work.
Review payments and manage construction activity to ensure scope is being executed as expected. Ensure contractors, sub-contractors and vendors are following hospital protocol for infection control measures, behavior and other hospital policies.
Prepare project summaries for internal review and budget reports for routine financial review.
Assist with keeping base drawings up to date and creating specialty drawings to help track space requirements.
Assist with creating hospital standards and specifications. This includes finishes, furniture, signage, fixtures, MEP systems, sustainable design criteria, commissioning standards, etc.
Receive general guidance from, and collaborate with, senior members of the planning department to maintain quality control and consistency of project execution throughout all MEE facilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor’s degree is required. Educational background in architecture, interior design, engineering or construction is highly preferred. PMP certificate or similar project management experience is acceptable.
Must have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience, including at least 3 years of experience in construction administration.
Experience working with healthcare, research and/or animal care facility design and construction projects is preferred.
Must have general knowledge of Massachusetts state building codes, ADA Guidelines, and City of Boston permitting process.
Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit, Bluebeam and Mircorsoft Office software are required. Fluency with Procore or BIM360 is preferred.
Knowledge of FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction of hospitals and MA Department of Public Health project review and approval process preferred.
Experience coordinating complex equipment requirements and/or lab planning is desirable.
Experience with construction budgets is preferred.
Skilled in personnel management, including professional staff, support staff, and construction trades personnel.
Ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely and professional manner.
