This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives on deep Layer 3 technical work, multi-vendor core platforms (Juniper + Arista + Nokia), and practical Linux-based automation in real ISP environments. Role Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Core Network Engineer with deep Layer 3 expertise to design, implement, operate, and optimize large-scale service-provider and ISP core networks. This role requires strong hands-on proficiency with Juniper , Arista , and Nokia platforms, advanced IP/MPLS routing knowledge, and solid Linux skills for automation, tooling, and systems integration. You will serve as a key technical resource for complex core infrastructure, acting as a Tier-3 escalation point and contributing to network architecture and automation initiatives. Key Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain complex Layer 3 core network infrastructures for ISP and service-provider environments, with primary focus on high-availability routing, MPLS, and multi-vendor fabrics. Configure, troubleshoot, and optimize advanced Layer 3 IP routing protocols and technologies, including OSPF, IS-IS, MP-BGP (including route reflectors), L3VPN/VRF design, traffic engineering (TE) tunnels, segment routing (where applicable), and related MPLS core services (L3VPN, L2VPN/VPLS). Develop and implement sophisticated BGP policy controls using route-maps, prefix-lists/sets, AS-path prepending, local preference, MED, communities, VRF import/export policies, route aggregation, and filtering techniques. Perform expert-level configuration and support of Juniper JunOS (MX, PTX, and related series), Arista EOS (including leaf-spine fabrics with VXLAN/EVPN, MLAG, CloudVision, ZTP, and telemetry), and Nokia platforms (SR OS on 7x50/SR series or equivalent service routers). Leverage Linux as a core operational platform: administer Linux systems, use native networking tools (iproute2, netfilter, etc.), develop and maintain automation scripts, and integrate with network APIs and orchestration tools. Drive network automation and infrastructure-as-code practices using Ansible (preferred), Python, and related tools for configuration management, validation, and intent-based deployments across multi-vendor environments. Deploy and support data-center and core fabric technologies, including Arista leaf-spine architectures, VXLAN, EVPN, VTEPs, and associated underlay/overlay designs. Act as Tier-3 escalation for complex routing, MPLS, and multi-vendor incidents; perform root-cause analysis and drive permanent resolutions. Create and maintain high-quality documentation: network diagrams, configuration standards, operational runbooks, change procedures, and architecture decisions. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing across the team. Collaborate with design, deployment, and client teams to support network expansions, technology upgrades, and high-availability improvements. Required Skills & Experience Deep, hands-on expertise in Layer 3 networking and advanced IP routing in service-provider or large ISP environments (OSPF/IS-IS, BGP/MP-BGP, MPLS, L3VPN, traffic engineering). Proven production experience with Juniper (JunOS on MX/EX or equivalent), Arista (EOS, CloudVision, VXLAN/EVPN fabrics), and Nokia (SR OS) platforms. Strong Linux skills: system administration, networking stack proficiency, scripting (Bash/Python preferred), and use of Linux-based tools for network management, monitoring, and automation. Solid experience with network automation (Ansible strongly preferred; Python and API-driven approaches highly valued). Expertise in BGP policy design and implementation, MPLS core technologies, and multi-vendor interoperability. Experience with network monitoring, telemetry, logging, and troubleshooting tools in large-scale environments. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills. Ability to work effectively in a client-partner model with service providers of varying sizes. Experience & Qualifications 5-8+ years of hands-on network engineering experience, with significant time in core/service-provider or large-scale ISP environments (7+ years preferred for senior-level candidates). Demonstrated track record designing, implementing, and troubleshooting complex Layer 3 / MPLS solutions. Relevant certifications highly desirable: JNCIE (or strong JNCIE-level knowledge), Nokia SRC/NRS, Arista ACE, CCNP/CCIE (or equivalent), or similar expert-level credentials. Experience with ISP fabric architectures, carrier Ethernet, or related transport technologies is a plus. Preferred / Nice-to-Have Experience with additional automation/orchestration platforms or CI/CD pipelines for network infrastructure. Familiarity with related access and aggregation technologies (PON, fixed wireless, etc.) common in ISP environments. Prior work supporting Tier 1/2 or regional service providers and co-ops. Knowledge of network security fundamentals in a core context (ACLs, control-plane protection, etc.).","company":"C4 Technical Services","rawCompany":"c4 technical services","isRemote":true,"isActive":false,"createdAt":"2026-08-20T02:36:20.830Z","occupations":[{"code":"15-1299.08","title":"Computer Systems Engineers/Architects","slug":"computer-systems-engineers-architects"},{"code":"15-1244.00","title":"Network and Computer Systems Administrators","slug":"network-and-computer-systems-administrators"},{"code":"15-1241.00","title":"Computer Network Architects","slug":"computer-network-architects"}],"industries":[{"code":"541512","title":"Computer Systems Design Services","slug":"computer-systems-design-services"},{"code":"541511","title":"Custom Computer Programming Services","slug":"custom-computer-programming-services"},{"code":"541519","title":"Other Computer Related Services","slug":"other-computer-related-services"}],"jobPosting":{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"JobPosting","title":"Core Network Engineer (Layer 3 Focus - Juniper / Arista / Nokia) - Remote","description":"Pay Rate is Dependant on Experience Level Some Travel not a lot Must have Nokia, Arista or Juniper experience.
