The program consists of seven focused modules (plus additional workplace skills and employer visit components) and includes hands-on training in a modern lab/shop setting. Graduates are prepared for roles such as production operator, machine operator, quality control technician, or maintenance support, and may have pathways to further credentials in SCC’s Machining, Welding, Robotics or other programs.\nPosition Summary\nUnder the direction of the Workforce & Continuing Education Department, the Adjunct Instructor will deliver both classroom and lab instruction for the Basic Manufacturing Certificate Program. The instructor will develop and deliver engaging instruction covering safety, manufacturing tools and equipment, blueprint reading, manufacturing processes, quality & inspection, manufacturing math, and workplace professionalism. The instructor will ensure students gain the technical knowledge, hands-on skills, and workplace readiness required to enter the manufacturing workforce.\nDuties and Responsibilities\nPlan, prepare and deliver quality instructional sessions across the program modules, including both lecture and lab/shop components.\nFacilitate hands-on activities and demonstrations in lab/shop settings, ensuring proper safety protocols.\nIntegrate workplace skills (communication, teamwork, time management, resume/interview preparation) into modules.\nEvaluate student progress via practical performance, quizzes/assessments, and class participation.\nMaintain student records (attendance, assessment results, completion status) in alignment with Spokane Colleges’ policy.\nCollaborate with local manufacturing industry partners and workforce organizations to align curriculum with regional employer needs.\nFoster an inclusive and supportive classroom/lab environment, responding to diverse adult learners’ needs.\nParticipate in program review and continuous improvement activities as requested by the department.\nParticipate in district, division, department, or general faculty meetings; in-service training; curriculum development; academic consulting; workshops or seminars; service on district or college councils or committees, or other activities with the scope of the position.\nComply with district policy, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statute and collective bargaining agreements.\nComply with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; follows established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, office support, safety and health issues and related administrative processes.\nSupport and advance the Spokane Colleges strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned.\nMinimum Qualifications\nMinimum five (5) years of recent and relevant industry experience in manufacturing, machining, industrial maintenance, production operations, quality control or similar.\nDemonstrated working knowledge of manufacturing tools and equipment, measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges), basic machine tool exposure, and preventive maintenance concepts.\nUnderstanding of workplace safety standards: OSHA, hazard communication, PPE, lock-out/tag-out, fire safety, emergency response.\nAbility to interpret and teach basic blueprint reading and technical drawings (line types, symbols, tolerances).\nCompetency in manufacturing process fundamentals (machining, forming, joining, additive manufacturing, material flow) and manufacturing math (fractions, decimals, conversions, tolerances).\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to engage adult learners in both classroom and lab/shop environments.\nCommitment to workforce training and the mission of Spokane Community College and Spokane Colleges in preparing students for regional manufacturing careers.\nPreferred Qualifications\nAssociate degree or higher in Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, Machining, Welding, Engineering Technology or related field.\nPrior experience teaching/training in a technical or adult education environment or industry apprenticeship program.\nFamiliarity with modern manufacturing trends such as Industry 4.0, lean manufacturing, automation.\nQuality system experience (e.g., SPC, root cause analysis) and use of inspection tools.\nExperience working with manufacturing sectors in Eastern Washington (e.g., aerospace, med-bio, food processing).\nBilingual (English/Spanish) or additional language skills beneficial.\nWorking Conditions & Environment\nInstruction will take place in classrooms, labs and manufacturing workshops; exposure to tools, small machine equipment, power tools and measurement instruments may occur.\nSome lifting (up to ~25 lbs) and movement around equipment and shop environment required.\nEvening and/or daytime hours, some weekends are required depending on teaching schedule chosen.\nAdjunct faculty assignments are for each class/session; payment is per contact hour according to schedule.\nCONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:\nTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:\nThis is an adjunct (part-time) position.
