This role assists in planning, organizing, and managing resources related to electrical sub‑stations, generators, MEPCO responsibilities, and ISO New England coordination. The Assistant Superintendent helps ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations while supporting continuous improvement across all technical functions.\n\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS\n\nSupports leadership and operational oversight of the Company’s electrical sub‑station and meter technician activities, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Company standards.\n\nAssists in supervising Power System Technical Supervisors, Operations Technicians, and administrative support staff, providing guidance, coaching, and day‑to‑day direction as delegated by the Superintendent.\n\nContributes to short‑ and long‑term planning, including training needs, workforce development, staffing/succession considerations, facility improvements, vehicle and equipment planning, and other capital‑related initiatives.\n\nAssists in developing and managing Capital and O&M budgets for assigned functional areas. Helps monitor expenditures, prepare variance reports, and support decision‑making to maintain adherence to approved budgets. Supports work planning and scheduling, including coordination with ISO New England through Versant Power System Operations.\n\nMonitors labor and non‑labor spending to ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines and provides recommendations to the Superintendent regarding operational adjustments.\n\nSupports the Superintendent in managing MEPCO‑related responsibilities, including operational coordination, reporting, and compliance activities.\n\nEnsures employees receive proper training to perform their duties safely and effectively, actively supporting and reinforcing the Company’s safety culture and programs.\n\nParticipates in the Call Duty Supervisor rotation, assisting with response coordination during major system events or emergencies.\n\nSupports continuous improvement efforts, helping identify operational challenges, recommending solutions, and collaborating with teams to enhance processes and achieve operational excellence.\n\nMaintains regular communication with the PST Superintendent and Manager PST, SO and Engineering, providing updates on operational activities, issues, and progress toward goals.\n\nWorks in accordance with environmental procedures and responsibilities, reporting concerns or deviations to the Environmental Department and supporting the Environmental Management System (EMS).\n\nADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nRemains accessible by home phone, cell phone, pager or Company radio.\n\nComplies with all environmental regulations and procedures including, but not limited to, spill reporting and response, waste management, oil spill prevention, transportation of hazardous materials, etc.\n\nPerforms other related duties as assigned, including designated duties associated with System Restoration.\n\nREQUIRED OR PREFERRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES\n\nAssociate degree in electric power, electronics or other related field preferred.\n\nMinimum of ten (10) years of combined experience in electric transmission and distribution construction, maintenance and operations, with a minimum of five (5) years experience in a supervisory / managerial function preferred.\n\nTheoretical and practical knowledge of electric transmission and distribution construction and maintenance practices required.\n\nExperience using Microsoft office products required, with ability to learn and apply other software programs.\n\nFamiliarity with work management systems is preferred.\n\nPrevious supervisory experience required, along with strong leadership skills.\n\nKnowledge and application of collective bargaining agreement, or prior experience in a unionized workplace is required.\n\nMust have ability to work without direct supervision and maintain high level of self motivation.\n\nPHYSICAL AND MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS\n\nPosition requires sitting, standing, walking, and driving.\n\nPosition requires some work outside and may be exposed to weather extremes of heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather.\n\nPosition may include exposure to chemicals and respiratory irritants.\n\nLifting up to 50 pounds.\n\nPosition requires visual and mental concentration\n\nPosition requires excellent organizational and interpersonal skills\n\nPosition requires excellent oral and written communication skills\n\nPosition is considered stressful due to deadlines and work load.\n\nPosition requires valid Maine Driver’s License.\n\nPosition requires irregular and extra hours.\n\nWORK HOURS\nFULL TIME: 40 hours per week.
