Principal scientist - biochemistry
Natick, MassachusettsPosition closedAllorion therapeutics is seeking an experienced scientist to join our Biochemistry department to lead our small molecule drug discovery efforts. The successful candidate will play a key role in planning and executing hit finding strategies. He/she must be highly skilled in biochemical and biophysical assay development and mechanistic enzymology. The candidate will work closely with colleagues across different disciplines to support and expand Allorion drug discovery portfolio.ResponsibilitiesContribute to experimental design and development of biochemical and biophysical assays to characterize enzymesLead hit finding efforts to enable hit discovery and understand mechanism of small molecule modulationEvaluate new technologies and vendors to expand drug discovery capabilityWork closely with external research organizations to generate quality data within timelineAssess and interpret data to make data-driven decisions and regularly present to scientific, project and leadership teamsCollaborate with chemistry and biology colleagues to validate compound data, drive mechanistic understanding of small molecule hits and guide hit to lead and lead optimization activitiesCreate a learning environment for open discussion and suggestions. Foster a team culture of ownership and ensure recognition of team achievementsRequired Skills Ph.D. in Enzymology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field, plus over 10 years of laboratory experiences in small molecule drug discoveryExpertise in in vitro biochemical and biophysical assay design and development. Familiar with variety of detection technology including FRET, FP, fluorescence, luminescence, etc.Experience in high throughput screening desiredExpert knowledge of enzymologyStrong organization and planning skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to clearly present complex enzymatic reactions to others in both formal and informal settingsExperience working with external research organizations strongly desiredExperience with protein engineering and purification desiredAbility to work independently as well as to collaborate with peers
