For opportunities in your area, check out our Careers page at www.1soi.com/careers.\nAbout the Position\nThe Assistant Controller will work closely with HR, Program Management, and Contracts to ensure proper labor charging, payroll controls, and alignment with contract pricing and billing requirements. This position also plays a key role in audit readiness, external and internal controls, particularly for DCMA/DCAA compliance.\n\nKey Responsibilities\nPayroll Oversight & Labor Compliance\n\nOversee end-to-end payroll accounting, including payroll posting, labor distribution, reconciliations, and funding alignment.\nReview payroll registers, tax filings, benefits accruals, and payroll-related journal entries for accuracy and compliance.\nEnsure proper labor charging in accordance with contract terms, pricing, CBAs, wage determinations, and internal policies.\nPartner with HR to maintain accurate payroll hierarchies, labor categories, lead pay, differentials, and cost center mappings within the HRIS.\nReconcile payroll subledger to the general ledger monthly and investigate/resolving discrepancies.\nSupport payroll audits, W-2/W-2C processing, and year-end payroll close activities.\nMonth-End Close & Reconciliations\n\nLead and execute month-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate completion.\nPrepare and review balance sheet reconciliations (payroll liabilities, accrued expenses, prepaid costs, intercompany, cash, etc.).\nEnsure indirect cost pools (Fringe, Overhead, G&A) are accurately calculated, supported, and reconciled monthly.\nReview variance analyses and provide explanations for significant fluctuations.\nMaintain audit-ready documentation for all close activities.\nGovernment Contracting & Compliance\n\nEnsure compliance with FAR Part 31, CAS, and applicable DFARS requirements.\nSupport preparation and review of:\no Invoices (Cost-Reimbursable, T&M, FFP)\no Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS)\no Provisional billing rate calculations\no Forward Pricing Rate Proposals (FPRP)\n\nServe as a key accounting contact for DCMA/DCAA and external CPA audits.\nMonitor internal controls related to payroll, labor distribution, and financial reporting.\nSystems, Controls & Process Improvement\n\nSupport ERP/HRIS implementations, enhancements, and integrations (e.g., Paycom, Unanet).\nEstablish and refine payroll and close procedures to improve accuracy, timeliness, and audit readiness.\nAssist the Sr VP of Mission Support with internal control design, documentation, and testing.\nMentor and review work performed by Payroll personnel and Budget Analyst personnel.\nQualifications\n\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.\n6–10 years of progressive accounting experience in a government contracting environment.\nDemonstrated hands-on experience managing payroll accounting and month-end close.\nStrong working knowledge of FAR, DFARS, and CAS.\nPrior experience supporting DCMA/DCAA audits strongly preferred.\nExperience with incurred cost submissions and indirect rate structures.\nProficiency with accounting and payroll systems;
