This position serves as the technical leader on the production floor for assigned machining cells, ensuring machines remain productive, tooling remains optimized, and production operators have the support needed to meet quality and throughput goals.\n\nThe ideal candidate is an experienced CNC machinist who excels at machine setups, tooling management, troubleshooting, and process optimization. While Parts Loader Operators will be responsible for loading/unloading production parts and maintaining machine operation, the 5-Axis Setup & Tooling Operator will be responsible for the more advanced machining functions required to keep production running efficiently.\n\nThis role is critical to minimizing downtime, maintaining quality standards, and maximizing spindle utilization across multiple 5-axis machine centers.\n\nDuties & Responsibilities:\n\nCNC Setup & Production Support\n\nPerform complete setups on Haas UMC-750 and other 5-axis CNC machining centers.\nInstall and qualify fixtures, work holding, cutting tools, probes, and associated tooling.\nLoad and verify programs, setup sheets, tool offsets, and work offsets.\nPerform first-piece inspections and production approvals.\nSupport multiple machining cells and prioritize work to maximize machine uptime.\nMaintain and operate 5 axis machines and deburr parts as required.\n\nTooling Management\n\nMonitor tooling life and proactively replace worn or damaged tools.\nAdjust and maintain tool length and diameter offsets.\nTroubleshoot tool breakage, excessive wear, poor surface finish, and dimensional issues.\nCoordinate tooling inventory requirements with production and purchasing teams.\nRecommend improvements to tooling strategies and cutting parameters.\n\nTroubleshooting & Process Improvement\n\nRespond to machine stoppages and production issues.\nDiagnose and resolve machining, tooling, fixture, and process-related problems.\nOptimize cycle times while maintaining product quality and process stability.\nAssist in validating new fixtures, tooling, and production processes.\nWork with Manufacturing Engineering to improve CNC processes and overall equipment effectiveness.\n\nSupport Production Operators\n\nProvide technical guidance and training to Parts Loader Operators.\nEnsure operators understand work instructions, inspection requirements, and basic machine functions.\nSupport operators in maintaining continuous machine operation.\nAct as the primary escalation point for machining-related issues on assigned cells.\n\nQuality & Safety\n\nEnsure all parts meet blueprint specifications, GD&T requirements, and customer quality standards.\nUtilize precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and other inspection tools.\nMaintain compliance with all safety procedures and manufacturing standards.\nParticipate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.\nPerforms other related duties as assigned.\n\nRequired Skills & Abilities:\n\nHigh school diploma or equivalent.\n3+ years of CNC machining experience.\n2+ years of setup experience on CNC machining centers.\nExperience with 5-axis machining processes.\nStrong understanding of tooling, cutting parameters, workholding, and setup practices.\nAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T.\nExperience using precision measuring instruments.\nStrong mechanical troubleshooting skills.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\nExperience with Haas UMC-750 5-axis machining centers.\nAdvanced knowledge of 5-axis machining strategies and setup techniques.\nExperience with probing systems and tool management systems.\nFamiliarity with CAM-generated programs and CNC program verification.\nUnderstanding of lean manufacturing principles.\nForklift and overhead crane experience (if applicable).\n\nKnowledge, Skills & Abilities\n\nStrong understanding of CNC machining fundamentals.\nAbility to independently perform complex setups.\nExcellent troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.\nWorking knowledge of feeds, speeds, tool geometry, and machining strategies.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to quality.\nEffective communication and leadership skills.\nAbility to mentor and support less experienced operators.\nSelf-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.\n\nPhysical Requirements\n\nAbility to stand and walk for extended periods.\nAbility to lift up to 50 pounds.\nFrequent bending, reaching, and machine interaction.\nAbility to work safely around moving machinery and industrial equipment.\n\nEqual Opportunity Employer/Protected Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities\nThis employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
