Energy Analyst

We run around 800 events each year, create digital platforms based on engaging news and information content, and operate professional development programs for individuals and businesses.We are seeking a full-time Energy Analyst to contribute to WPA’s work across several areas:Research – WPA offers briefings and reports for its clients on a regular basis. Additionally, WPA reports on developments of the day at clients’ requests on issues of interest.Programmatic Support – WPA hosts the Santa Fe Leadership Program, an annual weeklong trip to Japan for American experts in nuclear energy, energy policy, geopolitics, and nonproliferation. The Energy Analyst would provide administrative and logistic support for this program. Stakeholder Engagement – WPA is involved with information exchange between Japanese stakeholders and American experts regarding nuclear energy-related developments in Japan.This is a full-time exempt position based in Washington DC. The Analyst is expected to work in office four days a week, and the office is located adjacent to the Friendship Heights Metro station. Candidates must be based in the Washington, D.C. Metro area and possess U.S. work authorization. WPA is unable to provide sponsorship for international work visas for this position. The Energy Analyst will report to William Martin, the Chairman and CEO of WPA.Job Responsibilities:Conducting research for clients on topics of interest, as well as commissioned papers that are deliverables for contractsWriting internal reports and memos for clientsOrganizing and providing support for the Santa Fe Leadership Program, WPA’s flagship exchange program hosted once per year in JapanDevelop and maintain business relationships with internal and external stakeholdersProviding administrative and logistical support for meetings and events organized by WPAProviding support for Japanese staff or trainees based in WPA’s officeInternational travel to Japan and occasional domestic travel to participate in meetings, briefings, and conferencesPerforming other duties as assignedQualifications:A bachelor’s degree plus 1-3 years’ of work experienceRobust writing and research skillsDemonstrated interest in energy issues, nuclear energy, and decarbonizationAn excellent ability to communicate to diverse audiences, often from different cultural backgrounds and with differing viewpointsA sensitivity to cultural context and awareness of stakeholders’ varying levels of English proficiencyComfort working with limited supervision on a variety of long-term tasks and deadlines, in addition to handling issues of the dayPreferred Competencies:A master’s degree in political science, international relations, energy economics, or public policyExperience in policy issues related to nuclear energy, energy policy, decarbonization, and/or geopoliticsAn ear sensitive to whether viewpoints are communicated between American and Japanese stakeholdersSuperb organizational skillsAdditional InformationWe believe that great things happen when people connect face-to-face.
