Grocery Department Manager

SUMMARY
The Grocery Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the grocery department, ensuring products are well-stocked, organized, and merchandised to maximize sales. This role involves managing inventory, supervising staff, and maintaining department standards to provide a clean and efficient shopping experience. The Grocery Department Manager plays a key role in meeting sales goals, controlling costs, and ensuring excellent customer service. By leading a team and optimizing department performance, this position helps create a smooth and enjoyable experience for both customers and employee-owners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee daily operations of the grocery department
Manage department sales, inventory levels, conduct ordering, and minimize waste to maintain profitability
Provide outstanding customer service
Maintain high standards for product presentation, ensuring displays are fresh, attractive, and well-stocked to maximize sales
Monitor sales, analyze trends, and implement strategies to drive department profitability
Address customer inquiries, provide recommendations, and ensure a positive shopping experience
Ensure proper storage and rotation of products to maintain quality and minimize shrinkage
Collaborate with store leadership on pricing, promotions, and marketing initiatives
Supervise, train, lead and develop grocery department employee-owners
Ensure adherence to company policies, regulations and food safety guidelines
Maintain a clean and organized department; properly dispose of product packaging and other waste
Collaborate with store leadership
Perform all other duties as assigned

Previous experience in grocery retail or similar role with inventory management and merchandising
Strong leadership and team management skills
Excellent communication and customer service abilities
Knowledge of grocery store operations
Ability to analyze data
Familiarity with safety and food handling regulations
Comfortable using technology
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is typically performed in a grocery store environment with frequent exposure to refrigerated areas and freezers
Fast-paced setting, particularly during peak shopping hours
Frequent interaction with customers and team members
Must be available to work a flexible schedule including a variety of shifts, days, evenings, nights, and weekends including overtime, as needed
