Visiting Assistant Professor (Sedimentary Geology, Paleobiology, Sedimentary Geochemistry) – Full Time (0.85 FTE) Department: Environment, Geography, and Earth Sciences, Gustavus Adolphus College, Saint Peter, MN Position Overview Teaching: Teach 6 course sections per academic year (typically 3 each fall and spring) covering topics such as introductory geoscience, historical geology, sedimentary geology, paleontology, and courses related to the candidate’s expertise. Student Community: Foster an inclusive environment that supports belonging and growth for all students. Responsibilities Develop and deliver course materials, lectures, assignments, and assessments. Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work. Coordinate and lead field trips for courses where appropriate. Mentor undergraduate students in teaching and research activities. Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum development, and departmental service. Qualifications PhD in geology or a closely related field (ABD candidates expected to complete the degree by September 2026 will be considered). Proven ability to teach courses in historical geology, paleontology, and introductory geosciences. Strong enthusiasm for teaching in a liberal arts setting. Preferred Evidence of effective teaching (student evaluations, peer reviews, etc.). Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate students, including diverse and underrepresented groups. Teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Capacity to teach sedimentary geology and environmental geochemistry courses. Experience designing and leading field-based learning. Ability to engage students in research and scholarly projects. Benefits Salary range: $46,325–$51,000 for a 9‑month academic year, adjusted for experience, training, and departmental budget.
