Used Car Technician

Job Title: Used Car Technician Department: Service Reports To: Service Manager FLSA Status: Exempt Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Based on business levels some additional hours, including weekends, may be required). SUMMARY Performs Used vehicle inspections. Complete repair and maintenance work as assigned in accordance with dealer and factory standards. Performs Pre-Delivery Inspections, Recalls, and maintenance work. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Receive repair orders from Internal Advisor. Follow steps in Rapid Recon. Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with dealership and factory standards. Perform Used Car and Certified Inspections. Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repair as authorized. Communicate with the Parts Department to obtain needed parts. Tag and save parts, turn in parts, if the job is under warranty or if requested by the Used Car Manager. Advise Internal Advisor immediately if any additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed with the promised time. Document work performed. Quality check work performed.. Administer safety and housekeeping policies and procedures Understand and follow federal, state and local regulations, governing service repair work. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Three years of experience in a repair facility, one year of supervisory experience and/or training’ or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees and to individual customers. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Current, valid driver’s license; satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR); ASE Certification preferred. General Motors training a plus.
