We use machine learning, real-time decision engines, and flexible configuration to power accurate, personalized pricing at scale, while ensuring a great borrower experience.\r\nAs the Software Engineer II at Upstart, you will collaborate with engineers and cross-functional partners across Product, Analytics, Machine Learning, and Capital Markets to build scalable systems that respond to changing lender needs, funding dynamics, and borrower behavior. This role offers opportunities to deepen your backend expertise while working on impactful infrastructure that supports Upstart's lending growth and helps deliver better offers to more people.\r\nHow you'll make an impact\r\nDesign, build, and maintain real-time services that power origination fee computation and offer filtering\r\nDevelop scalable, reliable systems that support experimentation and rapid response to market changes\r\nCollaborate with product managers, analysts, and engineers to drive smarter pricing decisions and efficient capital deployment\r\nWork with business stakeholders to identify opportunities for optimizing marketplace performance and lender alignment\r\nEnsure the security, performance, and availability of critical pricing platforms\r\nParticipate in code reviews, testing, and the deployment of high-quality code\r\nMinimum Qualifications\r\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics, or a related field (or its equivalent) + 3 years of experience, with a strong focus on distributed systems and APIs\r\nExperience with some or many of the following: Kotlin, Python, PostgreSQL, Ruby on Rails\r\nExperience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and deploying applications in a cloud native environment\r\nExperience with microservices architecture and real-time data processing pipelines (Kafka, Spark, or similar)\r\nFamiliarity with database technologies such as SQL and data warehousing solutions\r\nPreferred Qualifications\r\nExperience in fintech, particularly in areas such as dynamic pricing, revenue optimization, or capital markets\r\nFamiliarity with machine learning models and their integration into production systems\r\nPrior experience or demonstrated enthusiasm for working on internal tools\r\nHistory of thriving in a variety of work environments: both collaborative and self-directed; remote and in-person\r\nPosition location\r\nThis role is available in the following locations: Remote\r\nTime zone requirements\r\nThe team operates on the East/West coast time zones.\r\nTravel requirements\r\nAs a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely.
