Assistant Designer (Mandarin proficiency is a plus)

OVERVIEW FARNEAR DESIGN is a boutique startup redefining luxury interiors through cross-cultural collaboration and thoughtful storytelling. We are seeking a bilingual Design & Marketing Coordinator to join our cross-cultural founding team in Laguna Beach. This hybrid role blends creative design support with strategic marketing outreach, ideal for candidates passionate about luxury interiors, brand storytelling, and client engagement. You’ll assist our Chief Designer with visual proposals and project execution, while also helping to grow our brand presence through exhibitions, bilingual content, and client-facing communications. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, fluent in Mandarin and English, and eager to thrive in a fast-paced, high-end design environment. RESPONSIBILITIES Assist the Chief Designer in all stages of interior design projects, including concept development, design proposals, 3D visuals, and construction documentation. Produce accurate drawings, including SketchUp modeling/rendering and AutoCAD construction drawings (core requirement). Apply a solid understanding of U.S. building materials, finishes, fixtures, and basic construction methods in daily design and documentation work. Assist with client communication and coordination throughout the design process, including preparing meeting materials, organizing samples, and supporting the Lead Designer during presentations. Contribute to marketing initiatives by assisting with exhibitions, events, and brand showcases. Serve as a bilingual liaison between the design team and clients to ensure smooth workflow and timely project execution. REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree or above in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field. Proficiency in design software, including AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Photoshop, and other relevant tools. Strong foundational drawing skills, including: SketchUp modeling & rendering and AutoCAD construction documentation (non-negotiable requirement). Practical knowledge of U.S. building materials and basic construction practices. Strong sense of aesthetics and creativity, with excellent communication skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask effectively. Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment and eager to grow with the team. Professional attitude, strong sense of responsibility, and willingness to learn. Ideal for individuals with international academic experience and strong bilingual communication skills (Mandarin/English). Ability to work on-site at our Laguna Beach office; valid U.S. work authorization required.
