(SI) is seeking a Project Engineer. The ideal candidate supports the design, development, and deployment of engineering solutions and specialized equipment for nuclear industry customers. This role combines hands‑on engineering execution, field support, equipment fabrication, and customer collaboration.\n\nThe Project Engineer works closely with senior engineering staff, assisting in developing customized solutions, supporting pilot‑scale testing, and executing projects both at our Rockdale facility and at customer sites. The position requires technical creativity, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to represent the company professionally while working independently in challenging industrial environments.\n\nThe work environment is highly collaborative and may involve interaction with other technical disciplines within Structural Integrity (Materials, Corrosion, Vessels & Internals, Operational Support Services, and Engineering Services) based on project requirements. Projects may range from chemistry optimization and troubleshooting efforts to utility assessments, research initiatives, and engineering evaluations. Day‑to‑day work will be a combination of office, fabrication shop, and nuclear plant field environments. The position may involve physical labor, equipment handling, and field installation activities. Travel frequency will vary depending on project assignments.\n\nPrimary Responsibilities\n\nCollaborate with engineering teams and clients to deliver technical solutions to complex operational and radiochemical challenges.\n\nDesign and develop customer equipment solutions using engineering principles and CAD tools (SolidWorks / AutoCAD).\n\nSupport fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation of specialized equipment.\n\nPerform pilot‑scale testing of liquid processing and chemistry‑related systems.\n\nExecute field support activities at nuclear facilities, including troubleshooting and servicing installed systems.\n\nPrepare technical reports, documentation, and engineering analyses.\n\nSupport in‑plant project execution such as\n\nArtifact sampling\n\nGamma spectroscopy\n\nChemical feed system servicing\n\nSample panel integration\n\nRequired Skills & Qualifications\n\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related scientific discipline.\n\nAbility to obtain and maintain unescorted access at domestic and international nuclear facilities.\n\nStrong problem‑solving ability and mechanical aptitude.\n\nProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing.\n\nWillingness to perform hands‑on work in industrial environments.\n\nAbility to travel domestically and internationally as required (≈25‑35%).\n\nAbility to pass alcohol and drug screening required for nuclear plant access.\n\nDesired Skills & Qualifications\n\nExperience or familiarity with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD.\n\nUnderstanding of electrical cabling design, harnesses, and panel integration.\n\nKnowledge of sheet metal fabrication, machined parts, chassis or rack design.\n\nBackground in chemistry, chemical engineering, nuclear plant operations, or radiological systems.\n\nExperience working in regulated or industrial environments.\n\nPay Range\nThe expected salary range for this role is $81,440 – $101,800 in Rockdale, IL.
